Huntsville Real Estate Tips--Fire Safety For Your Home

For this week's Real Estate Consumer Tip of the Week, I would like to provide you with some valuable information about home safety. As busy as we all get, it's sometimes easy to overlook fire safety and other home maintenance activities.

Remember to replace the old batteries in your home's smoke alarms regularly. You should also dust each alarm and test it to make sure it's functioning properly. Make sure you have installed enough smoke alarms for the size of your home -- at least one per story, especially near bedrooms.

It's also a good idea to check your fire extinguishers periodically: many models are only useful for a certain number of years. If yours is expired, replace it or have it serviced. Each home should have at least one extinguisher in the kitchen and the garage.

Finally, because overloaded circuits are the cause of many home fires, you should take a few minutes to scan your home's power outlets and replace any cords or plugs that have cracks or other visible damage.

These easy tasks can make your home a safer place for everyone. Please don't hesitate to call or email me if I can answer any questions for you. In an effort to help you improve the fire safety of your home, I am offering coupons to Lowe's for 10% Off Kidde Carbon Monoxide Detectors or Fire Extinguishers.  Request yours today to make a step toward making your home safer!

Wise words Kimberly, and a great public service to promote the CO detector. Many are unaware that a smoke alarm isn't enough.

Kimberly,

Thank you for your post....We all forget to check the batteries in the smoke detectors that could save our lives.  What a great service you are providing with the Lowe's coupons for carbon monoxide detectors.  Keep up the good work!!

Oh Cyndee, Thank you so much.  That is so sweet!

Jim, My favorite Sun city Realtor, I appreciate your comments.  Its always good to hear from you.

Harold, you are right and the worst time to remember that the batteries are bad is when you need the detectors.  I hope people will be able to use the coupons.

Pamela that is a GREAT idea!!  I usually put together a little basket of whatnots for the house and it usually has a small fire extinguisher in it.  But I really like your idea!!
