Do you remember the prime time television series Northern Exposure? Parts of Red Feather remind me of that show.
Just like the opening scene in Northern Exposure, moose are known to frequent the Village of Red Feather Lakes and the surrounding area often.
At first visitors may experience a little culture shock just like Joel, the New York doctor did in the show, too.
A plane on the Crystal Lakes Subdivision airstrip reminded me of Maggie, the pilot - but we do not rely on air transportation for supplies - we aren't that isolated.
People can drive here and drive here they do!
This is a scene from the Fourth of July weekend.
Every road in the Village of Red Feather Lakes had cars parked wherever possible.
September 3rd, the Red Feather Lakes road became the Red Feather Lakes Super Highway. There was a steady stream of cars, trucks and RVs as people came up to enjoy the Labor Day Weekend; either camping, staying in a vacation rental or in their own weekend/vacation cabins.
So, that's where the similarity with Cicely, the fictional town in Northern Exposure and the Red Feather Lakes area ends.
They did not have tourism and were not a recreation destination.
To my knowledge, they didn't have a wonderful inventory of cabins and homes and businesses for sale, either.
With all these business opportunities you could be like Ruth-Anne, the store keeper or Holling Vincoeur and have your own bar and restaurant! Anyone with a bank account the size of Maurice's could have a field day in Red Feather Lakes!
I loved watching Northern Exposure with all of those funny, strange and wacky characters in that show and I love Red Feather Lakes too!
If you're looking for a little "Northern Exposure", a mountain business or cabin - call me, I would love to introduce you to everything the Red Feather Lakes/Livermore area has to offer.
I hope you enjoy the Northern Exposure film clip below - the ending is magical. We don't have Chris, their resident philosopher and radio D.J., but there is a special magic here.
