It is amazing how many calls I get a day... "You seem to know everything or know where to get the answers..." I guess that come with being a community native and a board of director of the local Chamber of Commerce. Everyone seems to give out my number or e-mail when they need the 411 on what is going on in our area. Flattering but also tiring sometimes.

Dorie, thanks so much for this post.  I think it's something that should be on everyone's desk for them to re-read each morning, and honestly ask themselves if they've learned everything about their target market, neighbourhood and community that day, everyday, one day at a time.  I read all the newspapers and all the locals facts about my city every day, and I try to make sure that I am the core nexus around those things, involving myself with all that I am interested in every day, en route to appointments I usually stop by somewhere to inquire what's going on, other properties/workshops/outreach events and so on.  I think when we are attracted to our town and all it's workings it will attract itself to us as "participants" and, in the long run, indispensable members of that community itself.  Cheers and thanks again for a great post, Jark.

These are question not only to ponder, but to work on as well.  I don't know the area I'm in very well, we recently move there but I'm on my way!  I started by reading about the city, asking my title person for a farm area, driving around, walking around the area close to the office, getting a feel for the community.
