Flora Brown is a Professor Emeritus at Fullerton College and hosts the Internet radio show, Color Your Life Happy, broadcast live from Anaheim every Monday morning at 11AM PST.

"There are a number of times during our lives when we reach a crossroads, such as adolescence and early adulthood, to name a few. None is as disconcerting as the 55+ crossroads, especially for women. After all, this is the time when you thought you’d look back with pride at your accomplishments, settle into spoiling your grandchildren,or finally read those books you neglected. You may have even made grander plans, but society, the economy, technology and even the climate changed. Now at age 55+ you find yourself at a very different crossroads than the one you imagined, if you even thought about it all. Perhaps you’re bored with your predictable life, or laid off from your job years short of your planned retirement date, or worse, facing fears due to loss of your savings, health challenges, a divorce or adult kids living lifestyles you don’t understand. You could collapse in the middle of the road and wait for a truck to run over you. But that’s not very productive."
