Grand Isle Wedding - October 2010
(Slide Show has 19 images)

When my gene pool gathers, it is something akin to a demonstration of spontaneous combustion.  I guess it is bound to happen when the genealogy is a bazaar mixture of statesmen, presidents, a bank robber and a pirate or two.

Last evening, on Halloween Eve, my eldest grandson, Jason, and his longtime girlfriend. Jessica "Hollywood", decided to get married at Grand Island Mansion, where presidents Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Ronald Regan have dared to tread.

The mansion was dressed out as a gothic haunted mansion for the occasion.  But somehow, I don't think it had ever seen anything the likes of this family.

I know we bloggers often differ from actual network news media, by expressing commentary once in awhile, rather than just reporting the news; but what surprised me was finding not a single balloon in sight.  After all, my daughter Valerie, the mother of Jason Ewing, the groom, is heavily involved in the inflatables industry, via her business, "The Balloon Butler" in the Greater Sacramento area.  But, there were other tidbits of décor that readily made up for the inflatable absence.

One of the great things I enjoy about photo blogs, is when you are often left speechless, your pictures can sometimes pick up the story.    After last evening, I have learned there are some things words can't describe.  And there are other things there aren't enough words to explain!

I will tell you that the first picture in the slideshow is of the mansion at dusk.  The 3rd picture encompasses the parents of the groom - Father Chris Ewing (Sacramento attorney), his wife Tammy, My daughter Valerie (mother of the groom), and her husband Paul Reese (Group Health Insurance Guy).

There are other interesting event attendees (Nuns, Pirates, Cat Woman, Bat Girl, etc.).  The blonde lady in the leopard outfit is Jason's favorite Great Aunt Patty (on Jason's father's side).  The wedding party dressed formally for the ceremony, but quickly changed into alternative characters for the reception.  Yes, that's the bride in the Cave Gal outfit throwing her bouquetJ

The last photo in the slide show is of myself, three daughters, and a pirate or two.  Thank goodness this wedding took place in California, I don't expect citizens from too many other areas of this great land will even remotely understand.

"This is California."  Yes, it is.  Don't cha just love it?  I do.  What fantastic theme and great house to have a Halloween wedding.  My favorite photo was the group shot holding the skulls.  Oh, and the outside of the house with the tree over hanging in the shot.

Chrystina - The group shot with the skulls, is of myself and my three daughters.  I also am partial to the picture of the mansion with the tree hanging over the shot.  As for California, I love to travel, and enjoy being in other places.  Yet, coming home to California is where my comfort level is.  I think it's the only place that fully understands me. . .LOL

Diane - I had those "box" thoughts myself that evening.  But there is something my family has always believed, and that is that the people that want us to think outside the box, are the very same people that likely created the box in the first place:-)

Gene - I've shuffled around this planet for a long time now.  I've attended many weddings, but none were remotely like this one.   That pair is so much alike, I can't imagine them not spending a life together. . .LOL

Dear Myrl,

Your family looks like they know how to have fun. Can you imagine going through THIS wedding album in 2035 at their silver anniversary?

Dorte - It's not so much that we know how to have fun!  It's more about that spontaneous combustion thing.  And yes, I would still like to be around as a fly on the wall, when they open that wedding album in 2035.  They get to explain that to their kids. . .LOL

I really like how much more details you can include by doing a photo blog. I am still a bit new here and not sure how to do this or many of the finer points of Active Rain yet. I am going to find out. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Pat - Cute comment!  That wedding cake was really wonderful.  It looked like some fleshy oozing thing, with the raspberry filling.  BUT was DELICIOUS!

Debra - It was a different way to have a wedding!  The fact that they went all out to put it over the top, made it amazing!

Dennis and Terri - When I first came to ActiveRain in 2008, I hadn't a clue about blogging.  I started out simply, began adding a graphic or two, then pictures.  It has been an evolutionary process, that I have picked up along the way.  There are many bloggers here that provide an occassional tutorial.  Enjoy the journey!
