This started out purely for my own entertainment, but now that it's finished I decided to post it.
Homeward Bound – A Poem
Buying a home
Doesn’t have to be scary
With the tales that you’ve heard though
It’s no wonder you’re wary
But we’ll take things slowly
and go at your pace.
We’ll eventually find you
That one perfect place.
So before we get started
Let me ask you this:
Have you met with a lender?
That’s first on the list.
When we have that number
we’re ready to go.
Consider locations-
Which homes I should show?
Will more than one city
be options for you?
Let’s start with your favorites-
The first one or two.
How many bedrooms
and how many baths?
We’ll check the home’s lot size
and square footage it has.
We look at the best ones
and others drive past.
But this next one is different
We’ve found it at last.
How do I know that
since you haven’t said?
It’s the unspoken language
The turn of your head.
You’re eyes just lit up
when you walked in this home
Our searching is over.
No more will we roam.
Now for the offer-
there are comps to review
Will the sellers accept it?
We sure hope they do.
Ring, ring - they said yes!
Oh my gosh, you’re excited!
You’re buying a house
I can see you’re delighted.
But our work isn’t over
There’s still more to do.
Disclosures, inspections
An appraisal (or two).
No house is quite perfect
Repairs must be made.
The lender calls up.
Your escrow’s delayed.
Nail biting ensues
as you sit and worry.
This is important you say.
And we’re in a hurry.
I calmly advise you
that this too is normal.
Oh yeah! Docs are in now.
It’s becoming so formal.
Pages of documents -
sign here if you please.
Now let’s meet at the house.
Where I’ll give you ……. Your KEYS!
