Today, I was delighted to receive a copy of the email message below from Debra Peterson Conrad.  Debbi is the Wisconsin Realtors Association (WRA) Senior Attorney and Director of Legal Affairs.  She was in New Orleans last week and we had the opportunity to chat several times during the days leading up to the historic vote November 8th on the Amendment to Article 10 of the Realtor Code of Ethics.

This congratulatory message was addressed to all who touched this issue in some way, including WRA Board members and WRA officers, members of our Wisconsin Realtors Association Equal Opportunity in Housing Committee, plus State and local Association Executives and delegates who participated in the vote on November 8th.

Here's what Debbi wrote:

"Having just returned from the NAR Conference in New Orleans, we thought we would share with you the exciting news that the proposed amendment to Article 10 of the Code of Ethics banning REALTOR discrimination based on sexual orientation was passed by the NAR Delegate Body. This proposal had previously been approved by the NAR Board of Directors at the 2010 Midyear Meetings in Washington, D.C. This is special to the WRA because many of you had a hand in it including the WRA Equal Opportunity in Housing Committee, which with the approval of the WRA Board of Directors, made the initial proposal to NAR, and all of you who served as delegates for the various Wisconsin local associations at the NAR Delegate Vote on Monday. Special thanks goes out to Eric Kodner who brought this project to the WRA and Kevin King who shepherded the proposal through the NAR Professional Standards Committee."

Wisconsin Realtors can be justifiably proud that WRA took a proactive role in making this Amendment possible.  The Wisconsin Realtors Association originated this proposal and brought it to the National Association of Realtors in November of 2009.

When the idea of an Amendment to the Realtor Code of Ethics was first brought to WRA in early 2009, it received a gratifying response from all who became involved.  The level of support and cooperation which came from the Wisconsin Realtors Association speaks well of the Realtor community in Wisconsin and all WRA members should share in being proud of their State Association.
