tas_7palms_hammock_partialAs the temperatures here in New England are falling faster than the leaves piling up memories of lazy days on the beach it is time to ask a question, “Do you know Anguilla, British West Indies?”  If you do you can skip this blog and come back soon for the specifics on the magnificent villa that is on the market right now.  Villas of this type in a place like Anguilla rarely come on the market at any price.  Today, as the rains thankfully will not give way to snow and thoughts of Thanksgiving fill our shelves with delights let’s talk one of the most memorable islands in all the world.  I know, that is saying a lot.

Anguilla was first settled by the Amerindian tribes who migrated from South America.  It is said the Columbus sighted the island in 1493, while others believe the French were the first Europeans to discover the island in 1564.  The name Anguilla provides no insight here, since it is a derivation of the word “eel” in many of the languages from these countries.  Anguilla is an eel shaped island of some 35 square miles.  It is 16 miles long and 3 miles wide at it’s widest point.  To me it is reminiscent of Martha’s Vineyard, MA. only Caribbean with far more beaches and much less traffic.

In the 1830’s, St Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla all became part of the Federation of the West Indies on British Recommendation. The good news for current visitors is that the 5 star restaurants are decidedly more French in influence than British.  During these early years Anguilla was mostly neglected and cared little for the oversight.  tas_f_anguilla_mapThere was a Federation of the West Indies between 1958 and 1962 which resulted in separate constitutions being written for each of the three states.  This sparked the Anguillian Revolution which wanted it’s independence.  May 30 1967 is celebrated as Anguillian Day.  It commemorates the expulsion of the Royal St Kitts Police force from the island. On December 19, 1980- Anguilla became a separate Dependent Territory with some measure of autonomy in Government

Island of Anguilla has been chosen 1 of the Top 10 islands in the world. by the reputable sources. Anguilla is a mere seven miles from St Martin in the Caribbean. What this means to a person owning land in Anguilla is attractive tax benefits and a laissez-faire attitude. They speak English on the island use both the Eastern Caribbean Dollar and US currency, have a mean temperature of 80 degrees fahrenheit and an electrical system using 110 Volts AC.  All this makes Anguilla a very special place.  Many who have jet settled all over the world consider Anguilla to be the one place they can truly relax.

In the early 2000’s several villas were built on the island and set the standard for luxury property development through the island.  Our property is one of the largest on the island and has more beach frontage than most.  7palms_waterview_webAgain, I am getting ahead of myself and will talk about 7 Palms Villa in another post.  Most of the Villas built on Anguilla are labors of love.  They range in architectural design but are focused on quality of construction and beauty which delivers a livability that is unsurpassed.

Many celebrities and tycoons call Anguilla their secret hideaway because of the special lifesytle of this island including a privacy, family, laid back atmosphere with the unique combination of great dining. There are not many other Caribbean islands where you have one 5 star restaurant let alone many like Anguilla has.  Blue, blue water, soft inviting sand and a relaxed atmosphere all combine to make Anguilla one of those places that you will never forget.  Owning one of these unique Villas is a luxury that many might be able to afford, but with so few coming on the market few get to own.
