Bank of America plan to add 1,000 jobs in Jacksonville, FL, which shows the city’s financial services sector remains strong after weathering the worst of the recession.

The disclosure of the incoming jobs was relatively low key, which is somewhat surprising in this economy.

Mayor Peyton said he expects the bank will start filling the jobs in the coming months. Renovations are under way at the existing office parks off Southside Boulevard.

A Bank of America spokeswoman said the bank typically does not comment on employment levels except on a statewide basis.

Bank of America is among the Northeast Florida’s biggest employers. Merrill Lynch, which is part of Bank of America, employs about 3,000 people at its Southside office complex. Currently, Bank of America’s campus employs about 3,000. The expansion there would bring total employment to around 7,000.

Bank of America’s growth would mark the biggest expansion by a financial institution since Deutsche Bank picked Jacksonville in 2008 for a 1,000-employee office.
