Not always motivated, no problem

No one runs at full speed all the time.  The very fact we call it full speed is because it is in contrast to other speeds you may be running.  Everyone has both good and bad days, again there is contrast which tells us so.  I have always been a big believer in constant and never ending improvement (CANI-for those in the know), but when I think of that it occurs to me if you live your life that way that you might achieve perfection at some point.  I am not sure perfection is the goal, but doing well every day is.

In the real estate industry there are so many moving targets each and every day.  I am going to be focusing on my weak area the rest of this week.  My weakness is outbound calls.  I always pick up my phone and return calls and emails, I don't always pick up the phone and check in with my clients, constituents and prospects.  I had a conversation with my franchise owner yesterday about this fact and he shared with me that he thinks that calling people is the surest and fastest route to your next deal.  I don't disagree and do have luck when I sit myself down and do the work.

Getting yourself to do what you say you are going to do is part of our professional discipline.  Professionals do all that they should each and every day because that is the definition of professional.  It is work, not play even if you love what you do, as I do.  I am planning to look at my phone today and imagine all the wonderful people I can speak with today.  I will have some questions and some scripts ready, but mostly I will have some good cheer and some howdy-do's ready.  I think at the holiday times that people resonate with home and family a lot more than at other times.  It is quite often a time when people will be open and honest with their questions about their home and moves.

Quite possibly I am looking at this the wrong way, this happens often when I struggle with some aspect of the work.  I struggle because I am not doing something right.  The problem is all I feel is the struggle and it takes me a while to get through to the answer.  I think of great athletes and successful business people as role models.  How would Warren Buffett look at this?  How would Tom Brady approach this defense are not unusual questions for me when I am considering a point of struggle for myself.  No, I am not buying a business, or throwing a touchdown, but I am modeling people who get up every single day and put the pants on and try to do their best.  Maybe I will call them?

I too have the most trouble with making those "touching in" phone calls.  Not sure why because I enjooy talking to people.  Just seems it gets put back each day.  Thanks for the reminder.

Larry I think a lot of people struggle with making calls. I know there are times when I do:)

"I listen for a living." It's all about you.

Thank you both so much.  I consider you both consummate professionals and it is nice to hear it is not that easy, at times, for either of you.  That makes my discomfort somewhat more bearable.

Larry, I also struggle a lot with just picking up the phone and talking to people unprompted. I think that it's a very practiced skill to be able to do so consistently and with the confidence of knowing that you're not bothering people. Since fortune doesn't just fall into my lap, it's something that I'm going to have to work on improving.
