Is bad press still good press on ActiveRain?

bad press is still press, right?I am struggling with this issue. There are MANY amazing and wonderful people on here that post heart felt topics, educational posts and the like; then there are those that seem to bitch and complain a lot. Somehow those folks end up getting featured with 100 comments back and forth.

Do they like this kind of "ruffling of the feathers"? Maybe. Would they rather get bombarded with any kind of comment than the good ones? I have also noticed some of these folks are ambassadors. I don't know if that makes any difference. But it would seem that they feed off the banter and get a rush when someone comments no matter what the tone.

I know everyone is entitled to their opinion, and is free to express it. But there are some folks here I just can't subscribe to or comment on. I have a hard time promoting someone whom I have seen other places either being harsh and arrogant or creating blogs discounting the authority of someone else's blog.

I have seen some comments that welcome a heady debate. But I'm not sure that debate for the sake of debate does anyone any good.

I'm somewhat confused by this because I wouldn't want to give anyone a reason not to choose me for my services. I'm not about backing down when confronted on something I feel strongly about, but choose to filter my language and harsh opinions for the sake of keeping peace with all.

Yet, again, those topic which strike a fuse and cause that fury in some to rise up certainly get noticed... I don't know if for all the right reasons though.

My thoughts on this chilly morning! Have a great last week of 2010!

Tammy, I have seen some of the very negative comments, and as long as the bloggers leave them in the comment trail, I would think that they have approved them.  I try to stay away from them, however.

Tammy, my mother in law always says, if they are talking about you, then they are talking about you! Good or bad, what can I say.

I guess it is human nature to be drawn toward conflict, to voice ones own opinion. I know I don't like conflict, but sometimes healthy debate is good to clear your mind and set things straight!

I agree. It may be difficult not to want to retaliate on something that bugs you but by leaving that comment I am only promoting what I don't approve of. But then I think, if I comment, I, myself will be noticed more promoting myself even more... such a fine line...

Thanks Arleen, I knew I couldn't be alone in this! ;-)

Andrea, Right! And I think many think that as well. But when promoting your business and yourself, I certainly wouldn't recommend some of these folks to clients in their area.

Healthy debate is good, when voiced in the right context and in a productive manner. Some seem just to throw out their opinion and see who it offends.

Thank you for your comments :)

Tammy, I agree that a healthy debate is good but it can go too far.  Last week I read a post that was quite disturbing......can't imagine doing business with that person.

Good post, Tammy.

"There's no such thing as bad publicity" seems to motivate too many people.

And I disagree with the concept.

And we have flat-out crude bloggers.  What's up with THAT?

Ann, Yes there is a good balance. I don't mind people standing up for what they feel is right but it can get out of hand.

Frank - I too questioned if people really thought about what they are saying before they say it. Maybe if you're a tough lawyer or negotiator people will want your type of business style, but others in the business just see you as a destructive force. Thanks for the comment!

Mike, I have noticed that too! It's a little shocker what I have read from some on here.. AND they have comments that say, I AGREE! Did they actually READ the post?

Tammy....I don't think bad press is good press, but that's just my humble opinion.  I do like a good, honest, fair debate - not necessarily negative but if someone has a differing opinion on something, then I think it is good to have a healthy debate if you disagree.  I'm talking about a discussion that might broaden someone's thinking or help them to see something from another angle - not necessarily change someone's mind or opinion.  I don't like pure negativity or disagreeing just to be difficult or get noticed.  We all have our bad days but consistently being negative isn't good for anyone.

I dont' want to be known for any bad publicity anywhere. I would rather build up my business and reputation on always being above board on all aspects.

Tammy,

I think here in AR is just like the real world. Letting people "be themselves", say what they want, etc. is just as important. We all have our own opinions but some people prefer to ram them down others throats!

If I have a bad comment on my post, I "always" leave it. They are hurting themselves, not me. And to answer your question, debate, in any form and especially when it gets heated sells!!!

(Just maybe not to the people they are trying to sell, lol)  Just sit back and enjoy the good stuff that is here and don't let it upset you:)

I know enough not to leave a comment if a post is too heated and too radical. No one is going to care about my comment at that point, so I just move on.

We all like to watch the train wreck and can't help but feel the rush deep inside when things are getting heated... but at the expense of your business and mine, I would choose to sit back and watch others bury themselves as you have said Karen.

Christina, I have learned quite a lot on here so far and have been introduced to new ways of thinking of things. But I have also come across some blogs that have flat out gone against what I teach (so to speak)... it's tough not to want to retaliate but if I know what I know and can back it up, then I really shouldn't care what others think.... (Except when that other blogger has WAY more commenter than I do... :-P )

I agree Don, building yourself up rather than tearing others down has always been the above reproach way to go. I would much rather hire someone in that field, than the opposite.

I must be missing something behind this blog. I believe debating is healthy-as long as it dosen't get personal. I agree with Tammy, it's best to move on when there is a heated debate because it became personal somewhere. A good reputation, and ethics are gold.

Maria,  Healthy debate is fine, but I have read some comments on other blogs back and forth that seem really attacking.. and it's almost like the writer doesn't care what others think. This is a business platform and if one wants business this does not seem like the smartest way to go about it.  :) Thanks for all your great comments !
