I Will Not Shut My Mouth! Part 1

By
Real Estate Agent with The Gasset Group & Get It Done For Me Virtual Services 13253167-SA00

There is a part of me that knows when to shut up and another part that screams out to speak up. The balancing act is exhausting at times. If I am going to write a rant or a venting post, which many times can be healing to my soul as well as connective to others who are in the same boat, I will draft it up and then wait for a day to see if I still feel that same way and also see if I need to soften the tone or not. If the feeling stays with me and my heart continues to drive me to publish the post I will.

But if I want to post about something even more important- like something that I am very passionate about and yet I know it is highly debatable I will often weigh how much I will polarize my audience. Off the cuff I am not however I am very straightforward and speak my mind. Polarizing audiences creates deep loyalty from those who agree and most often respect from those who don't. That is a topic for another post.

I have been doing some extensive research and studying of economics, history of countries around the world, US history and current events. There is so much I want to say!

For the first time since I started writing online I allowed the fear of repercussion to out rule my desire to speak up. That is a scary place to be. No one should ever feel afraid to speak their mind. Freedom of Speech is such an innate right that is fundamental to any civilized and humane country or nation.

Worse still, when you shut up or restrain because of exterior forces you are no longer owning your own voice. You have given over that authority to an outside entity other than your self. This then moves you to a place where you are no longer being guided by your values and principles. I don't ever want to revisit the hell that place creates again. After 20 years of walking on egg shells in a past abusive relationship I know what it means to not be allowed to speak your mind, your thoughts and your opinion. I am not about to repeat that space.

So no matter who is reading, watching and taking notes- as long as I have a voice and I don't like what I see I will call it out. I will raise my voice. I will not be shut up by tyranny or the threat thereof. Read the primer to this post- Choose to Make Your New Year's Resolution- Embrace Personal Liberty

And so we shall go to part 2 tomorrow...

Donne- That is something different than what I am talking about. I am talking about the fear of not speaking up while rights are being stripped away. While there are many I don't give a hoot what they think or say, I will always take a stand for their right to say it or believe it or whatever. I don't own them. They don't own me.

But I am talking more about- do we stand up when someone else is being oppressed against the oppressor?  Or if a liberty we have is being threatened I feel compelled to speak up about not for those who don't listen or who won't listen but rather to those who do want to know what is going on and also will take a stand against any tyranny.

What I won't do is go along my merry way with my head in the sand because then if I wake up in cage, the could'ves and should'ves - well- we all know those don't count anymore!

Loreena- The curbing of our tongues is something that needs to come from self discipline and self ownership not some regime or body of any government to force upon people. It is a right given to the children of God by our Father in Heaven. Jesus spoke about speaking the truth and not turning a blind eye.

Keeping the peace is never accomplished for long by fear. In fact, the peace they claim they have is an illusion.

There is a big difference between a democracy and a republic. In a Democracy those who are in power and those that agree with them have freedom of speech and those who do not believe as they do - do not have the same right. THen the tables get turned and this goes on and on.

Our founding principles have within them the very right of freedom of speech and just to keep quiet is actually doing many a disservice,

the only way for evil to prevail is for good men to choose to do nothing.

Lane- I so agree with you. Political correctness has gone way too far! Did you see the latest word police push for making it wrong to use the word illegal immigrants and instead say, undocumented workers:) Oh my gosh! I am so sick of everyone afraid to offend someone else! The constitution does not protect us against hurt feelings!

Like I said in my primer post- they need to get their big girl and boy panties on!

You sound fired up and I can't wait for part 2, this should be interesting. You know I don't criticize people for their opinion, it is their opinion. I have mine, you have yours and that is what makes this country great. But, if you think you should force your opinion on me, then we are going to have a problem!

Katerina,

After coming off of an abusive marriage, I, too, have learned to speak up when needed.  It feels so good to get things off of my chest instead of having it build up inside of me.  Of course, if it is a small, rediculous thing, I will normally let it pass.  If it involves me and it is something I have strong feelings about, I will stand up and have my say.

Can't wait to read part 2.

Brigita

Katerina - there is no censorship so vile as that which instills fear to speak in a so-called free country. I am looking for your primer link as well as the the next parts of this.

The problem was with my Safari program not Active Rain. In Firefox the editor bar does show up. That means I need to restart my computer:)

Fear and doubt are works of the enemy!  Getting to know you through the rain, your training and our conversation, you are a giving person.  When  you speak you come from the intention of sharing and no one can ever doubt that.  People have the choice to speak and the choice to not read or listen.

Great post Katerina!  I have gotten myself into lots of trouble saying what is on my mind.  But sometimes, I just can't keep my mouth shut!  When my son was young, he would always add, "just saying" when voicing his opinion.  I applaud you and him!!!!  Happy New Years to you and all the Gasset family!
