SILENCE IS GOLDEN...AT LEAST SOMETIMES!

Playing music off the deck of your vacation rental home

Plugging in to your Ipod as you walk

Rocking out to music in your car

Elevator music

Music floating across the lake from your boat

Ambiance music as you grocery shop

The car blasting rap as it drives by, shaking the windows

See a theme here?  I love music as much as the next person.  However, the other day I was getting annoyed that I could not find a good music station while I was driving.  In frustration, I finally just turned it off...and suddenly my world was at peace!

Why do we feel the need or obligation for constant music?  What's wrong with silence...or the background of birds singing, the hum of your car engine or other peoples voices?  I, for one, am going to start opting for silence a little more often!

Paula,

I think it is something about music that soothes the brain, relaxes us. Even my students report being more productive when they have music to listen to. Unfortunately, we can't allow students to listen to ipods , mp3 players or cell phones while in school...

Hi Paula - I used to love listening to music, but I too discovered the beauty of silence.  I guess that too much going on all the time gave me more appreciation for "quiet moments."  : )

Hi Paula,  I have to have times of quiet.  So many need back ground noise....not me.  I love early mornings and how quiet and peaceful the day is.  Enjoy and make time for quiet.

Paula,

one of my pet peeves. I HATE piped music! I even hear it now in doctor's offices--I feel worse when I leave than I did when I went in.

And I hear it coming through speakers at the gas pumps. Please, just let me pump my gas without the bloody noise factor!

I often ask at restaurants if the music is for the staff or customers. They often respond that they can't even hear it. Well I hear it!

You can see from my comment that I'm getting angry just writing about it.

I'm with you--silence is golden. And with the price of gold these days, silence is becoming a priceless commodity.

I agree, it's amazing how wonderful "the sounds of silence" can be. For the other times I recommend SIRIUS/XM never have a problem finding something there ;-)
