Staging by Creative Concepts Home Staging & Contracting Salem OregonColor Trends - If it isn't anything you've investigated before, color forecasting is a fascinating process and has wide-spread influence.

Did you think you saw a lot of turquoise last year?

Turquoise was Pantone's color for 2010.  Soon we were seeing turquoise everywhere - clothing, accessories and home decor.

Calming, soothing and refreshing - in a troubled economic time it became a hit color and soon crept into most of our closets!

So what's the color for 2011?  Honeysuckle - imagine raspberry sherbet or a cross between coral and fuchsia and you'll have the color nailed. 2011 Color of the year

From the Pantone press release:

"While the 2010 color of the year, PANTONE 15-5519 Turquoise, served as an escape for many, Honeysuckle emboldens us to face everyday troubles with verve and vigor. A dynamic reddish pink, Honeysuckle is encouraging and uplifting. It elevates our psyche beyond escape, instilling the confidence, courage and spirit to meet the exhaustive challenges that have become part of everyday life. "

Hmmm - now I'm not much of a pinky person and have never thought of a pink color to be "emboldening".  While we have designed childrens rooms around pink colors, our staging company has never used this color - even as accents.  But, I think this color will be creeping into our inventory very soon!

This spring we predict we'll be seeing  Honeysuckle pillows, bedspreads, glass accent pieces are going to be our inventory.

What do you think?  Tickled pink with the new color?

You may not be loving it now, but I'd bet by 2012 you have some of it in your home or clothes closet!

I did see this forecast and thought to myself that I have never thought of honeysuckle as pink but I'm all for it!

I was thinking 'honeysuckle' might be too girlie for a lot of men. Yet, turquoise didn't seem too manly for women. Why is that? Do women just love more color?

Great to know about the 2011 color, I know it will be popping up everywhere soon.  I have enjoyed the 2010 colors, fun calming.

That is interesting...I know I loved turquoise last year and did acquire quite a bit of it in my wardrobe....I am with Teral...didn't associate Honeysuckle with a pink color!  I do like it though and am sure it will make its way into my closet!   LOL   I actually sold a home last year with "honeysuckle" on the walls of a bedroom.

Thanks for the update. It's a beautiful color - especially in the drab of a Minnesota winter.

Margaret - This looks like a great accent colour for spring.  I love the examples you showed in your link - ok, maybe not the shower curtain, but that lamp and those pillows from Lamp Plus - oh yeh!  I'm not one to shy away from bold accent colours, so bring it on!

Pretty, but I think I prefer the turquoise for a long term color choice.  I would tire of that shade of pink pretty quickly.

Thanks for the post Margaret!

Hi Margaret,  I love that shade of pink!  Not sure I would intentionally use it in a staging design, but it would be beautiful in a child's room.  I just read an article last week about pink being the new "hot" color for bathroom tile.  Think retro...pink sink, tub, toilet...you get the picture.  We have staged many homes with 1950's pink bathrooms.  They are still in great shape and look updated with chocolate brown and white accents.

Aloha Margaret,

Pink or in this case "honeysuckle" is a tricky color to master without appearing too dated, effeminate, or garish. How much pink and the accent colors used in a design should be carefully measured. Pink colored ceramics such as tile, and porcelain fixtures should in my opinion, never be used. I agree with Diana pink should be off set with whites, browns, as well as, creams, grays, blacks, reds, purples, and oranges and always used in moderation. Thanks for the post.

Peace,

Honeysuckle should be great; but then again, so was turquoise.  However, I live on Maui so these colors are more "in" than in other places.  I do like this color a lot and I'm not a pink sort of person.

I think this can be a fun color used in moderation and with the right context!  LOVE the idea of an accent with chocolate or greys!!  The name "honeysuckle" always throws me....I'm expecting something yellow or gold!!

I like the Honeysuckle as an accent color.  It's real pretty, but I know I would want to change it after a time.  However, I really like the color of jacket you're wearing, Kathy Burke :)  Honeysuckle?

Oh, my-your blog really was about "pink".  I can't wait to see what you do with it this year.  The picture of the flower is beautiful.  Will I be seeing those on the bathroom counters of the homes you stage for me?  I agree with Catherine-we could use a little color.

I htink I like it -- and think it will be a great accent color.  And who knows - perhaps by the time they pick the 2012 color of the year - -we may have grown to love it.  i actullay can see it paired with a nice soft turquoise.  Makes me think Miami!

It's not a game, it's your life.

Margaret - It will be interesting to see this color creep up in pictures from this group.  Great information and it will be something I'll be looking out for.
