A Beautiful Florida Garden In Winter.... huh? what's that?

We inspected a lovely home with beautiful Florida landscaping. You could smell the fresh cedar and all the greenery. But what's the feature in the middle?

A Beautiful Florida Garden With A Special Feature

Yep, it's the clean-out for the septic tank underneath. I think it's a good idea to keep the clean-out fairly visible. It makes it so much easier for the septic cleaners to find. We include the location of the septic clean-out on our reports when we can find it. ....but most times, it's been buried by landscaping rocks, cedar, or just buried over the years with dirt.....

Easy to locate this septic clean-out

This one however, looks like a little monument :)

Oh how funny, I had my buyer place cinder blocks around theirs, then they placed a little statue on top to hide (from visitors) the cleanout. The cinder block "windows" will reveal the cleanout if anyone is looking for it. Love the garden!!

Jay - That sure does make it so much easier to find. I have never had to locate a septic tank clean out, but I would imagine its a pain in the butt if its buried or hidden.

You would be surprised that some folks have no idea where the septic clean-out is located. It is always a good idea to mark the spot and if you are selling to show the new owner.

Septic tanks are not something I would want to have to deal with; that would be reason enough for me to pass on a house.

Jay -- that's the most beautiful cleanout I've ever seen.

Carl & Celi -- isn't that the truth?

Hi Cynthia, I think you're buyer's statue idea is even "classier" than the monument above. :)

Hi Garrigus, It can be a real pain to locate, sometimes it can't be located. I just let the Buyer's know to ask the Seller where they've hidden the clean-out.

Hi Carl & Ceil, It is a great idea. I agree that most homeowners don't have any idea what the clean-out is. It would be nice for Seller's to have the clean-out marked in some way.

Hi Barbara-Jo, I have city sewer now, but when I built my house it was originally on a septic. We never had any problems with it. But I can tell you, the grass grows greener over the septic tank.

Hi Jason, It's truly a work of art. :)
