Case study: The Evolution of the Realtor Brain

By
Real Estate Agent with Homesmart

Of the big mysteries that this universe has to offer, is any greater than the inner workings of a mind which would subject its user to the life of a Realtor?  How is one programmed to endure the uncertainty?  The abuse?  It is a classic case of Nature versus Nurture.  Are we born this way?  Is there some gene or abnormal chromosome shaped like an "R?" While I do not pretend to have the answers, I have concerns.  I am already seeing signs in my little boys that smack of "Realtor."  Perhaps it is mere paranoia, but I swear that I know the exact thoughts that run through their little minds sometimes.  Allow me to share some examples, and for the love of God, tell me that I'm wrong!

Paul, and Eric:  Throughout most of her childhood and teen years, and to this day, with both her parents in real estate, if one of us would ever suggest to my daughter that she consider getting into real estate... she would grimace, and then mumble something about getting regular paychecks, medical benefits, and that she needed to have "a real job."  So yes... my daughter has spent much of her life waiting for the evolution of the Realtor brain.  LOL

Isn't that the truth, Eric

Ah Karen, but I said those same very things.  I'm a second generation agent myself.  I should put the link up to my Meme.  You'd probably smile to read the acount of the path I inadvertently took to this profession.  It might sound vaguely familiar.

Eric, unfortunately, I think the general public already holds that belief.  The great thing about a site like Active Rain is that consumers get to peek behind the curtain, so to speak, and lose that belief.  Thanks for stopping in.  By the way, I think it's your turn for the collective brain this weekend!

Paul, you are wrong. I happened to catch "In the Womb" the other day on the National Geographic channel. They spoke of at the time of conception, (it is not what you think, it's when the sperm enters the egg. Thats the time of conception) and the two cells are getting together and the chromosomes are doing there thing. There was no mention of the "R" chromosome. Rest peacefully my friend, those boys look like politicians.

Very cute!  Is that little guy surfing the internet in the buff :)

Your boys look about the same age spacing as mine.  I have a 12 month old and a 27 month old... and many others, but they are my close babies.

Rob, You had me breathing a sigh of relief until you said ... POLITICIANS!  Ugh!  Thanks for dropping the science anyway, though.

Hi Dawn:

Yup, the little guy just won't stay covered.  Banging on the keyboard randomly, running around the front yard, riding on his trike ... somehow he always ends up shedding the clothes.  My boys are 6 months and nearly 2, so you are right about them being relatively close.  My wife just started a cool children's activity group that you should check out:  www.busybeesadventures.com

Thanks for dropping by and commenting!
