Splish, splash I was taking a bath on a Sunday morning before an open house - actually it was my car. Although I was pressed for time, the thought of my car with mud on it from any of the number of dirt roads I drive on daily was not the impression I wanted to create on one of our rare, cloudy and gray days in Santa Fe, New Mexico. This time I did a two for one deal where I got gas and then went through the car wash. This affordable option gave me a few extra minutes to think and play in my imagination zone before returning to the real estate trenches of working an open house. This image happened when I decided to do something for the first time.

In the end, my super clean car attracted 32 other cars to my open house transforming my open house into a wild and crowded experience. Stay tuned for the rest of the story.

Hi Emily - I thought you had a huge downpour before I started reading.  Cool idea.  Maybe next time my car needs to be cleaned I will relax at the car wash instead of thawing the hose and icing over my driveway (like I did last week). Can't wait to hear more about the open house!

Chris, icing over your drive way is not a great idea! Try the gas station with the drive thru, it's fun!

Laurie, I'll do a follow-up on what happened at the open house. Now it's snowing in Santa Fe!

Ellie, I'm still amazed at what happned today. Clearly the buyers are out in force!

Virginia, 32 cars brought over 32 people! Lot's of buzz on the street for this home. More to follow.

Barbara, why not bring Rocky and wash your car! Between those 2 events something will happen! Thanks for the tip on the post. I will check it out!

Emily it is amazing that you had that much activity at an Open House.  I don't that all of the Open Houses around here today put together had that much activity.

Wow that's a great turnout for an open house!  We still need a little better weather to get people in the groove!

Love the picture.

Emily-32 is a great number, congrats and good luck!

Like the other part of your post even better, what your 'Cone of Silence' time in the car wash got you. Clarify please-'this image happened when I decided to do something for the first time'-is this a recurring picture you use when your inner child strikes gold?

Kathy, this one was the most traffic I have ever received for a Sunday open. What is different is I did nothing different with my advertising (in local newspaper, on ALL web sites where I could announce it etc. The only different thing was washing my car!

George, I often have some related local business person at my open houses. Do you team up with Realtors on their opens in CT?

Judith, thank you! It is clear people want to buy real estate.

Gloria, keep the faith, keep holding homes open and remember spring is coming soon. I like the way you count walkers!

Wanda, we had gray skies and lower temperatures on Sunday, but something is shifting. Good luck on your next one.

Marie, thank you! I never took a photo from inside the car wash. Now I'm looking forward to next Sunday. Given the uptick in gas prices, I plan to wash my car in these drive thru systems when I can buy gas. Hope this answers your question. As for inner child, I'm five going on being a boomer!

Emily I do when they ask me.  But I make it a practice of stopping by at least three Open Houses every Sunday so that I can stay on top of what is out there, and it is also a great way for me to stay in touch with Realtors that I know, and to also meet new ones.

I love that you took the photo opportunity!

I am also impressed by the numbers at your open house. Must have been a great house, great location, and great marketing!

George, that is a great idea!

Roseanne, I think in the end, it is all about practice. I learn something every time even if only 1 person shows up.
