Surviving Your SerengetiIf you haven't already seen Surviving your Serengeti: An ActiveRain Challenge, go see it NOW, because today is the last day to fulfill the challenge requirements!

Reading the first two chapters of the book was  fun and easy.  The veldt of West Africa is an exotic place that i hope to go one day -- and a wonderful setting for this business metaphor.

I'm not going to give too much away about the first two chapters of the book -- except to say that it does leave you wanting more -- I'm looking forward to the full book release!

After you read the chapter, take the quiz.  According you your answers, you will be given an animal in your quiz results.

I wondered what animal I was going to end up being.  I was kind of hoping for the mighty lion.  After all, my name most often makes people think of Richard the Lionheart!

But my lion dreams were not meant to be, for I was awarded the Giraffe.  The graceful Giraffe at that!

Surviving Your Serengeti

So how does my giraffe status apply to real estate?

  • They seek to make others feel like they're the most important person with whom they can spend time, and always put the needs of others first.
  • Yup - this one sure is important in real estate!  Whether working with buyers or sellers, it's all about the client.  Elevating oneself above one's clients is a recipe for disaster.

  • They live according to personal standards that are higher than any given code of conduct, and incorporate dignity, honor, and respect in extending grace to others-even when things have not gone their way.
  • How can anyone be successful in real estate without this quality?  Realtors subscribe to a code of ethics.  If you can't conduct your business following and exceeding these standards, your clients will suffer.

A line from the quiz results says:

"Grace represents style, finesse, kindness, and above all, doing the right thing - a quality that will always advance our purpose in life, no matter what it is."

I am now happy that I am a giraffe instead of a lion.  It sounds like giraffes live by the golden rule -- One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself.  A maxim I use in both my every day life and business life.

So go ahead -- read the chapters and take the quiz -- well worth your time!

    Richard,

Well to the giraffe club.  The GOLDEN RULE is very important to me and is my goal in how I treat my clients.  The good news is we are thriving on referrals, as folks know we are more concerned about making things right for them, then money for us.  Don't get me wrong, we do work for the $$, but if we do a good job for the client keeping their needs in mind, the money follows.

    All the best, Michelle

Richard - Not surprising that you are a Giraffe  --"They live according to personal standards that are higher than any given code of conduct, and incorporate dignity, honor, and respect in extending grace to others-even when things have not gone their way." They must also have a great sense of humor because that is also part of your charm! And, you look pretty good in this picture...
