Education and Designations behind a name

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with 3:16 team REALTY ~ Locally-owned Prosper TX Real Estate Co. #9001154

I finally did it.... After 1 1/2 years of planning and going for classes, I was finally conferred the CRS and ABR designations all in the same week ....

Loreena Yeo, CRSCRS = Certified Residential Specialist and ABR = Accredited Buyer's Representative.

I've always loved and valued EDUCATION. But I must say, I didn't quite understand it at first - when I first took my real estate classes (online). I passed the classes and took the Texas Real Estate exam. Didn't think too much about it, I went on my merry way to help clients buy and sell real estate.

My first Designation course was the ASP (Accredited Staging Professional) class and as a result, I obtained my ASP-Realtor designation in February 2007. The class was instrumental to my success as a listing agent. There, I connected with my very good friend, Karen Otto - who is active here on Active Rain too.

Ever since that ASP class, I realized that not all classes are made the same.

I also took on the Certified Luxury Home Marketing designation several months later and my "bestest" title, the BROKER title in July 2007 when I was 6 months pregnant.

I continue to strive to learn and do better in education for my clients.

As a result, I finally received the CRS and ABR designations just recently. Something I can say that I'm proud of - because I did learn and apply the things I learnt in class to my business.

Many times, our real estate industry do not seem to respect our very own education. Some even call it a joke.

But I guess it all depends on the person's attitude who's taking the classes and designations. If you think you're smarter than everybody, sure, you may not learn anything.

Often times, within our real estate industry, we feel that the consumer do not understand the letters behind our name. I guess it's because we never respected and pride on the titles we took the time to carry.

Outside the real estate industry, I have a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (was a Structural Engineer in my previous life) and also a Master's Degree in IT Management & Consulting. Can't you tell I love to learn?

So, there you have it,

Loreena Yeo, Broker, CRS, ABR, ASP-Realtor(R), CHLM, SFR, Realtor(R) ..... WHAT'S NEXT???

Congratulations, Loreena!  It can't hurt to be educated and I wonder why some would disregard the designations and certifications.

Congratulations on your new designations, Loreena! I, too, learn something from every class I take. There is always a new way to try things, or a new idea that you never thought of before, or even some tried-and-true methods that can help you in your business. Education is fun, and very important!

Loreena,  Congratulations on earning your ABR and CRS!  I think education is the best thing you can do.  I have my ABR and will complete my GRI in a few weeks.  From there, I plan to work on my CRS next.  All in good time...  Holding your brother in my thoughts and prayers.

Loreena, all of my designations were earned SPECIFICALLY to learn how to be better in a particular area, to better serve my clients.  What I know to be true is that although most people don't have any idea what those letters stand for, they recognize that it took effort and resources to earn them, and they respect them.  They give you much more credibility!  Congratulations!

You are an inspiration. The Florida Real Estate Commission did a study years ago and concluded that there is a correlation between education and discipline.

The more education agents had the less likely they were to be disciplined by the Florida Real Estate Commission. You are on the right path. You are leading the rest of down the right path.
