Beware of What You do When You're Using A Wi-Fi Network

By

Once upon a time using your laptop or other devise  at a Wi-Fi hot spot was relatively safe.  However, a free hacker program called Firesheep was released in October that can change all that.  The program can allow anyone to see what other users on the unsecured Wi-Fi network are doing, including capturing  passwords and user id's  for whichever website you happen to be logging on to.

What should you do to protect yourself?  Experts suggest that you  leave the shopping and any other sensitive date work at  your home or office where your networks should be more secure.

Christa, I've heard some of the dangers of using Wi-Fi networks, but this is even worse than the things I had been hearing.I would be worried about even using my email for fear that some one could steal the password and user ID.  have you heard any suggestions of how we can protect our use or should we just leave the laptop at home?

I secured my home network several months ago and I have a hard wired DSL at my office.  I'll use my EVO for mi-fi with my iPad in the field....it is secure on my phone network.  I would not feel comfortable using my iPad at Panera Bread unless I absolutely had to
