Pay It Forward: Volunteering for the Arthritis Foundation
At the end of March, I attended training for the 9Health Fair. During the training and orientation, we were given a list of other volunteer opportunities. I reviewed the list carefully and I filled out my volunteer availability form, but I wanted to be more proactive about volunteering. I contacted the Volunteer & Programs Manager to schedule a meeting to chat about available opportunities.
I met with Jill (Volunteer & Programs Manager) of the local Arthritis Foundation office on Tuesday of this week. We chatted for nearly an hour about the mission of the foundation, their signature events, my work schedule (which can be flexible some days, and not so much on other days), and my talents and how they would be benefit the foundation.
Jill suggested that I get involved with the Arthritis Walk, which will be Sunday, May 15th (watch for more information about this event). Rich and I currently volunteer for the Alzheimer's Assocation Memory Walk every year in September, so this should be easy schmeasy!
Yesterday was my day to volunteer at the 9Health Fair. I was disappointed in the turnout at our location. Unfortunately the school (Rocky Vista University of Osteopathic Medicine) is not very well known by the public. When I volunteer next year, I believe I am going to chose another location. It's not much fun to sit for 3 hours and only have the opportunity to help about 10 people!
