Strathearn Historical Park and Museum.

I have lived in Simi Valley since 1996. It amazes me the places of interest that I have never been. I drove by the Strathearn Historical Park located at 137 Strathearn Street in Simi Valley. I saw all the old farm tools, farm equipment and the historical buildings of the past.

I did not take the tour but there are daily tours with experienced docents that have all the history to share. From building to building there are markers to give a little explanation of each one. From churches, barbershops, barns and even a general store.

These buildings were on the land elsewhere in the Simi Valley area in years past. The time era’s are from 1795 for the Spanish era, the 1860’s and 1870’s for the Pioneer era, and parts of history is about the Chumash Indians that started it all from the coast to here in Simi Valley.

Walking from building to building I wondered why I had not visited here before now.

Ken, I did not even know there was a Historical Park in the Simi Valley. After your post I must add it to my must see Day Trip Destination.

Ken ~ It is amazing the things we can miss even when we live in an area long term!  I recently wrote a similar post about a wildlife area I've driven by several times daily for the past year, and often even before that for several years.  Although I knew it was there, it wasn't until recently I took time to walk through the area.  I discovered an awesome walking / bike trail that I will now use frequently.  Gotta take time to "smell the roses", and appreciate our surroundings, huh?

Endre - Just like Melanie says below, we can live in an area for some time and let things pass us by. In this case I passed by almost daily. I had seen the sign but just never wandered down there.

Melanie - I need to get out more.
With this 31 day challenge I plan on it. Simi is just the area I live. I have so many places in Westlake Village to explore. At least I know those attractions it is just getting the time to get there. Of coarse I have 29 days now.

Thanks for stopping by.

Ken ~  What a wonderful localism post -- it's so amazing the history all around us which has such a great hand in defining us, yet we are so busy, we don't take the time to engage.

Ken - Great post on Strathearn Park.  I've actually been there before a few years ago.  Interesting place; lots of Simi histor too.

Tish - Thanks. I am scouting around now. I am feeling like a hermit not getting out and about. And the days I actually take off are not scouting around. But, with the challenge there is a new dimension to how I spend my extra time.

Donne - Thanks I enjoyed it. I want to go to the places that the old homes or structures were and see where the history was.

Eric - We'll thank Russell Ray
for saying that. Hello to you too and welcome to our clan. I will be by later to say hello to your blog.
