Reasons to obtain a City of Oceanside building permit

Oceanside building permitBefore you start adding on to your existing home you should always take a moment to complete this building application. If you decide to build without a proper permit you may find yourself losing money by having to tear down what you've built.

Furthermore, you will have all kinds of fun when trying to sell your home. In some cases your addition(s) could be on top of a utility easement which means PG&E has the legal right to make you remove the addition so they can get to the easement.

All of these things will eat up your time and money. Filling out a building permit will take a lot less time and save you from possible legal issues. Contact us if you need an equity line of credit to remodel your home. Click the image below to go to the City of Oceanside permit application page.

This is good advice for any homeowner doing some remodeling, at least in most cases. Better than to find out you needed one and didn't get it. That can come back to bite you when you go to sell, or if the town gets wind and decides to investigate. And unpermitted space CAN be an issue with getting a mortgage, depending on the circumstances and teh lender, from what I have seen and heard.

Great post Nevin. There are times when I wish I could just do the work without a permit. But it is in the owners best interest to get a permit. The problems that can occur later on is not worth the savings today. I see it too many times.

Tom - I'm amazed at how many contractors skip this step!  Glad to know you do it right!
