New Hampshire Home Stager - The Miracle Worker Widow Maker

By
Home Stager with Sharon Tara Transformations

I'm a professional home stager in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.  I assist people in preparing their house for sale.  New Hampshire isn't exactly the hub of home staging, but I believe, it's just a matter of time before home staging becomes the real estate standard.  Until then, sellers who understand the benefits of home staging have a significant competitive edge over those who don't.

fairy on moonAlthough I don't consider myself a miracle worker, I have been called one.  While there have been a few Realtors who declared the results of my work "nothing short of a miracle",  I didn't get the name as a result of someone being overly impressed with my transformation skills.

The name comes from my ability to get husbands to do things that their wives have not been able to convince them to do.  (Removing, repairing, replacing and moving things.)

You know that look a man gets when his wife asks him to move the sofa to a different wall or how he rolls his eyes when he's told the porch needs to be painted?

For the most part, my position as a home stager has been perceived as one of authority to husbands and my to-do list is taken far more seriously than the wive's list.

It's a power that, I must admit, I rather enjoy!  It's grateful wives that have called me a miracle worker.

One glitch...my super powers don't work at home...my own husband is immune.

I'm no miracle worker and there is nothing miraculous about staging.  It's a pretty simple concept...prepare it, present it, increase it's perceived value.

The best thing I've ever been called as a home stager was "widow maker".

A very nice man named Bob gave me that title.  Bob, a client who after a two hour staging consultation in which we moved most of his furniture, believed he was surely going to die, leaving his wife a widow.

Bob survived and his house sold, and his little pet name for me remains my favorite.

Some houses need more attention than others, but the hard work won't kill you and the end result could be less time on the market and more money in your pocket.

Whether you choose to do it yourself, bring in a professional home stager for reinforcement and guidance, or have a stager prepare your house for sale, the bottom line is that preparation is key in today's market.

Sharon, your post is funny and oh so true! I've had similar experiences. I had a couple today who apparently argue about replacing light bulbs! Hubby was replacing them as we toured LOL.

Peter:  And hopefully no brushes with death in the future!

Lloyd:  You wouldn't be the first husband to feel that way!  However, I did have a woman tell me the other day that her husband is going to love me because I told her to get rid of all the things he thinks she should get rid of.

Maureen:  I'm sure you've heard it before!  That and then some!

Li:  Thank you!

Pat:  I hear ya, LOL!

Chris:  We are getting there...not so many "what is staging?" awkward stares these days.  I receive more calls from sellers now than agents...that's a good sign.

Lou:  You haven't seen me in action, LOL!

Steve:   I think you might be right about New Hampshire, but as for your wife...you talk a good talk, but I'm not buying it.  I don't believe your wife has any problem at all getting you to do just what she wants you to do!

Peg:  I like how you think!

Scott:  Be afraid, be very afraid!

John:  Well then he found some kryptonite or something, lol!

Janice:  All couples have issues and as stages we see more than we really care to!

h, how funny. Husband almost died from working and moving furniture around the house. I think Jeniece's clients husband will be sick for a week now recovering from changing light bulbs. LOL

Sharon,

Thank you for the research and the link to the discussion about protecting bamboo from squirrels and other critters.  You're a sweet heart for doing that.  I read it all and found it interesting and helpful.  Misery loves company.  I think I've plugged all the holes in the "cage" and I haven't lost any bamboo shoots for nearly one week.  Thank you.

Actually my wife collects stuff.  Lots of stuff--pottery, folk art, textiles and weird miscellaneous "found objects."  We've had shelving built and added two large storage sheds just to handle all her stuff.  Plus she has a ~400 sq. ft. studio in the house that's full.  I finally told her she needed to take one thing out for each thing she brought in.  She said fine...I'd be the first thing to go.  Oh well.

Thanks again for the link to the bamboo info.

Sharon--cute post.  You're so right.  We do have a certain authority that doesn't get questioned.  I have been amazed at what actually gets implemented from my consultations that I would have bet money would not have happened, because it is usually accompanied by the comment of, "My husband won't do that."

Ellen:  I could certainly be called worse!

Anna:  I really did work this poor guy!  He was a good sport about it, but it really did take a lot out of him.

Craig:  I was glad the house sold, it would have been pretty disappointing to all of us if it hadn't.

Lloyd:  No problem.  I hope you have the situation under control and those critters stop tormenting you.  I had never seen black bamboo before, it's beautiful!  As a female, I love your wife's response.  But as a stager, I totally agree with you!

Janet:  I've heard "my husband won't do that"  "my wife won't do that"  my seller won't don't that" - I don't accept any of it without a fight!  I give it my best argument with all the reasons why they should and how it will benefit them.  If they then choose to ignore the suggestions, it's their loss.

Sharon- you are definitely a miracle worker in my book.  Excellent post.. and I'd love to be a fly on a wall when you're there convincing the husband to move/get rid of/paint/fix this or that!

I love it when I have the husband standing right in front of me with wife behind as I explain to him what he will be doing for the next 2 weeks to prepare his house for sale.  She's grinning and nodding and wants to high five. It's what she's been saying for months...maybe years.

And then he does it. And as you say, "It's a power that, I must admit, I rather enjoy!"
