My Friday the 13th: Water Gushing From Neighbors House

Day went by just fine, I was done helping my wife doing dishes after dinner. As I left kitchen she started screaming... OMG there is flood of water coming from neighbor's house. We live in a condo and share walls with neighbors, isn't it normal to blame poor neighbors when any thing goes wrong in our house. Well I scrambled for my glasses and flash light to find out where this geyser was coming from. Wife announced right away it is about time to remodel the kitchen

After fiddling with some flex pipes under the sink behind two dozen cleaning supplies and getting soaked  and poked by the stranded wires of the hot water line feeding the dish washer, I discovered hot water flex line I installed just 11 years ago was busted. Somehow I fitted myself under the sink (I need to loose 40 lbs) to turn off the valve ... what a relief to stop the flood of water.

After cleaning up the mess I sat down to watch my pre recorded week old ABC World News and Oh My God look at the floods of Mississippi. My family is panicking with this little 3/8"pipe burst, how about those people dealing with the flood waters, there life time's hard work and dreams are going under the water.

I need to remind myself everyday to count my blessings and feel the pain of others. Those are very courageous people living on the banks of Mississippi waiting for the waters to recede and start rebuilding again, I wish them the best.

My Friday was just fine, costed me few dollars this morning to fix the pipe and buy breakfast from Jack in the Box. Their new Big Breakfast burrito is good, try it

The floods on the Mississippi are really terrible, but anytime you have a flood in your own home - it FEELS like the Mississippi river is overflowing.

You're so right. Most of us have NO problems at all compared to the folks whose homes and businesses have been essentially wiped out by the flood waters.

I had a basement "flood" once when something went wrong with the washing machine - it was an annoyance and it took some work to clean the mess. I lost a box of Christmas wrap and a sack of cat food.

Big deal!

Meanwhile... are you sure your wife didn't break the pipe to get you to remodel the kitchen??

(Just kidding, we women are never that devious.)

Ruth: you are very correct but I am sure these folks will bunce back

Marte: You could be right, it is the time to invest in a spy camera to see what she does on my back. Not really, she is the nicest soul I have in my life.

Sure am glad you were home when this happened! Friends recently had a leak that must have gone on for the 2 days they were away. UGH!

Nellie, you are right it could have turned into a week long project and think about mold and other issues, luck is on my side.

Deepak - Funny how what we consider catastrophes are really nothing compared to real catastrophes.  Anyway, so glad it turned out to be rather minor.  Have a good day Deepak and a great week too.  :)
