Images of Days Gone By...

Fellow ActivRainer Rob Thomas has written several posts with accompanying photos of barns. Verdant fields that were once put under plow, are now being put under the 'dozer's blade to make room for our ever expanding population. I, like Rob, feel that these images of our American heritage, the simpler times, should be preserved for the next generation.

These stately statues are no more. The remnants of what was once a prosperous dairy farm have been leveled and a new subdivision is now being built. I was glad I got the opportunity to see them one last time and bid them fair well.

Michael...

I take a lot of photos of silos when I see them. Modern ones don;t have the same look, so this tall storage cylinders won't be with us much longer.

Michael, like Rob and actually Todd Clark, I am a big fan of old barns, and lumbering old decrepid buildings that have character. Let me see if I can pull one up....

Here ya go...right down the road from where I live. Have a wonderful weekend. Do you like cemeteries?  Rob visited my post about that, too...

lots of photo ops!

Michael - I love old barns too and think they should be preserved. I love Rob's barn photos and he inspired me to be on the lookout for them and I've already gotten a few nice photos. I was so glad to see him win the photoblogging challenge, because I just love his photo of that red barn and the story that accompaniedit - he did a spectaular job!

Howdy and evening to you Michael

Michael,
it sure is a real shame when a subdivision takes over where a Farm was.

Have a good one

Michael, what great pictures.  I grew up with in the country of Colorado where these were common to see.  They are hard to find these days so you were fortunate to get a couple of good pictures before they are gone.  Thank you for sharing these icons of our youth.

Michael, I'm definitely a city boy. I remember years back driving though southern Illinois, and stopping to ask for directions. I was told to go down the road until I came to the old grain elevators then take a turn and stay on that road until i came to the new grain elevators, etc. Once we he was all done, then I had to ask what a grain elevator looked like

Michael - My area has been losing a number of farms over the years to new subdivisions.  One local farm recently sold for $100 million that was already surrounded by subdivisions to a consortium of subdivision developers.

Hi Michael,

In this area there has been a lot of old silo's replaced with the new fangled "Blue ones".

They just don't have the same mystique as the original ones.

Thanks for sharing,

Clint

Photo memories last forever. In a few years when new folks move in they will never know that those silo's were once part of the landscape. Out with the old and in with the new seems to be the way today.
