Here is an awesom post by an agent who is making a great sacrifice to save another's life...I know many of us often wonder why we are here and what is our purpose and I believe that many of us know what that is...what a great story of someone taking action for the benefit of another..I hope many people have the opportunity to read this and send her and her family the best of wishes and prayers !!

Save a Life, Save a Family

This is Barbara, my sister-in-law and her two sons, Brian and Kevin. Their dad, my husband's brother passed away 5 years ago. Six months ago Barbara was told  she was in kidney failure and was put on the transplant list before going on dialysis. NJ has a five year waiting list and unless a family member matched there was a good chance she wouldn't live that long. During this time, I never knew what Barbara and her boys were going through because she chose not to disclose her condition to me because we had just lost my son's girlfriend Nicole. Our grief was and is still is something that we live with every day.

Three months ago I inadvertently found out about Barbara's dire condition and instinctively knew I had Barbara's kidney. This is not the first time I just knew something and my intuition has yet to be wrong. I immediately got tested ( a simple blood test) and was a perfect match - two blood alleles matched, extremely rare (15%) with a non-blood relative.

I believe all things happen for a reason. I couldn't save Nicole - a bitter pill to swallow, but I can save Barbara and keep her family intact. So, after the world's most comprehensive physical ( cat scans, X-rays, blood, mammogram, EKG, stress test, pap test, sonogram and many more), I'm in perfect health and our surgery is scheduled for the 3rd week in June.

I can't bring back Nicole, but I can save Barbara and make sure her son's have their mom around for a very long time. I know Nicole is up in heaven, very happy that I'm doing this for Barbara.

During this process I learned that you can function perfectly normal with one kidney, the recovery is only 3 weeks and should I ever need a kidney, I go straight to the top of donor list having been a living donor.

This is one of the many cards Barbara has written me and through all our grieve surrounding Nicole's death, this is the start of my healing because I can save another human being.
