About This Home’s Energy-Efficient
Features
This home has modern energy-efficient windows, low maintenance siding, and is built with highly insulated 6” walls. (The only exception is the three-season porch, which is built with 4” walls.)
It’s heated with two separate thermal mass systems operating at special off-peak rates. The first includes discreet but high-mass wall units in bedrooms and the main living area. The second includes an in-floor radiant heat system beneath the entire lower floor. Around the footings, thick curtains of rigid foam extend downward into the ground. The in-floor heating system warms the slab beneath it, and also the dry sand beneath the slab. Even if the heat is turned off in mid-winter, the current owners have found that this system keeps the home warm for days.
The home also has a large-capacity superinsulated water heater that operates at off-peak rates. Together, all these features mean you’ll enjoy comfortable, even heat; low heating bills, and extremely low hot water bills.
More About Leader Lake
Leader Lake is a cold, deep lake with limited public access. The only public boat landing is a carry-in landing suitable for canoes, kayaks, and similar watercraft.
The 160-acre lake has a maximum depth of 56 feet, and much of its sand and gravel shoreline drops off rapidly. Leader Lake is much cooler and deeper than most lakes in the area. According to the DNR, the primary game fish present include northern pike, walleye, largemouth bass, and panfish. Because of limited public access, fishing pressure from non-residents is relatively light.
Convenient shopping and easy access.
A few miles from Hwy 53. You’ll find the basics in nearby Minong or Solon Springs; Superior and Duluth are 45 minutes away. From Minneapolis/St Paul, it’s a 2.5 hour drive.
