An enjoyable educational experience of over 5,000 years waits on a 30-acre historic oasis with an archaeological and environmental museum open to people of all ages. Owned and operated by a not-for profit organization - Gulf Coast Heritage Association Inc, Historic Spanish Point (HSP) in Osprey FL was accredited by the American Association of Museums and is the first site in Sarasota County to be listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
The only archaeological exhibition in the country housed inside a prehistoric shell midden "Window to the Past" is located at HSP
Explore the Florida's pioneer life on a 19thcentury Webb homestead, the Guptill House, Citrus Packing House, Lizzie G. sailboat and the charming Mary's Chapel, which will host small formal or casual Florida style weddings.
Mrs. Potter Palmer created the lovely pergola & sunken garden from 1912 - 1915. The neo-classic style pergola with 16 columns, colorful flowers, and sunken pool with elegant water fountain is a favorite site for weddings & receptions at HSP.
Enjoy the shady nature trails, Butterfly Garden, and scenic, stunning views of Little Sarasota Bay. Osprey, pelican, dolphin & Manatee can be seen from Cock's Footbridge.
This Summer active military personnel & their immediate families may visit HSP for free as many times as they want courtesy of Historic Spanish Point's participation in the Blue Star Museums program of the National Endowment for the Arts. Summer Adventures day camps are a great way to learn about nature, ecology, archeology, theater and water sports.
The visitors Center in the restored 1920s era Osprey School features a Museum Store, Orientation Theatre, & Meeting Rooms.
