Black 2001 Mercedes SLK 320 Hardtop Convertible - RECOVERED! in San Francisco

Since I can't reblog my own blog, I've copied the 1st blog about my stolen car below...Tonight I got a call from the police telling me my car has been found and it appears driveable. Can you get to 444 Stockton in 20 minutes? YOU BET! So off my partner and I went. GPS led us to the Stockton Street garage, just 2 blocks from Union Square. At first we weren't sure and drove around the block, but then drove in to the garage, found an attendant who said the police were waiting on the 5th floor, section H.

Drove up to the 5th floor and sure enough, found a police car parked in back of our old SLK. All the good loose stuff was missing from the inside, my partner's ipad, ipod, wallet gym bag. But nothing on the car was damaged. The thieves stole it on May 23, and that same day it was parked in the garage. I found out garages check cars every 24 hours but don't report it to the police until 3 or 4 weeks. Signed a bunch of paperwork, got the stolen car alert removed and we were off.

Tomorrow its off to the Mercedes dealership to have it rekeyed. Know anyone who wants to buy a good used hardtop convertible? We've moved on already, don't need to go back......

Black 2001 Mercedes SLK 320 Hardtop Convertible - Stolen in San Francisco

I seem to have writer's block. Ever since my last blog entry BLIND ALLEGIANCE, I can't seem to concentrate on a new entry. You see I mentioned about the stolen car in that last entry and I can't get beyond it without writing another entry about it. My outside blog is titled "My Life as a San Francisco Realtor", so many of my entries continue 'the story'.

2001 SLK 320I've had that car since 2003, and I always loved driving it. It made for difficult times when I needed to chauffeur clients from place to place. Usually they wanted to drive their own cars, but once in awhile I had to borrow a friend's car. So now it's time to grow up. We just got a Steel Grey 2009 C300. Life goes on and I'll be much more respectable now.

Time for the last RANT, and then I'll be done. I am angry. If the Notes from the Universe have any bearing in truth, the as***le who stole my car will get his someday. The license plate 'TJS88' was lucky for us for 8 years. The car has a small dent in back, a cracked headlight and a number of Buddhist decals on the windows, one in front and one in back. If I ever see it again, believe me, I'll know it.

John, I am truly amazed in this City that you recovered the vehicle at all! And, in driveable condition... wow.  Good luck with a quick sale... btw, R&M mechanics on Ellis, right around the corner from the old SF Mercedes dealership on Van Ness, does a great job of selling used Mercedes'.

Sharon, I'll keep your offer in mind ;-)

What goes around, comes around Andrea. He'll get his someday.

You're right Roger. it was bittersweet having the car recovered. My feelings for it have been tainted. And I have moved on.

It is amazing Peggy. When I made the original police report, the officer told me that the majority of stolen cars turn up eventually. The thief just wants a joy ride. He said they usually turn up parked on the street and being recovered on street cleaning days. Never thought about it being left in a downtown garage, and on the 5th floor. This car thief was smart...

WOW, John!  Man, I should have cruised over to your blog yesterday!  So sorry you had to go through this.  I can understand your "tainted" feeling.  On the positive side, at least you weren't personally/physically injured.  All the best to you!  :)

Karen, thanks for looking in on things here. I didn't drive the SLK home, my partner did. Now it's parked on the street. Every time i walk by on the street while walking my dogs, I am a little surprised to see it there. TJS88. Used to be such a positive thing. Bluebook says its worth $10k to $12k. Hopefully we can find a buyer.....

Years ago, my brother's car was stolen...the police said they had a good idea of where it was...en route to a weekend "celebration" at a beach two hours away.  Seems there was always a spike in stolen cars the same weekend every year when this particular event was held.  Sure enough - after the weekend, my brother's car was recovered, but get this - it had been customized!  LOL  Seriously...who does that?  Anyway, the police called my brother, who promptly had it towed to a dealership.  There was nothing wrong with it he couldn't drive it. He never drove it again, just sold it as soon as he got it back - he was so angry!

Oh Susan, I CAN understand your brother's feelings! It's parked on the street a block from our house. Hasn't made it to the dealership yet, hopefully my partner will do that soon. Every time I walk by it while walking my dogs, I seem to be surprised to see it there. I am slowly warming to the idea of driving it again though. If it doesn't go back tomorrow, I may keep it with me during the day - streets around here have 2 hour parking limits, and i don't want to get a ticket.
