Selling your home? If you are, I am sure your Realtor already mentioned making your home look as vanilla as possible so that buyers can imagine their belongings in the new home. One thing you need to do BEFORE your home goes on the market is declutter!
YOU may think you don't have a lot of items but in this case, LESS is always better! Start now and go through every room. What things do you NOT want to move to your new residence? Those items need to go NOW.
Remember your local Hospice, Salvation Army, Goodwill, Women's Shelter or other local donation center. Most will come out with a truck and pick up larger items that you want to donate. You can also get a tax write-off for those items. It is a win-win for all involved and you are helping others at the same time!
Once you have completed that task it is time to start packing up anything you don't REALLY need to have before the move. Get a local storage unit or move boxes into your garage. Either way, you are making your house look LARGER by getting these items out.
Take those photos of Uncle Phil and your kids off the walls as well. Too much in the way of personal items and decorations just makes it more difficult to sell. You want to assist prospective buyers in their ability to see themselves and their belongings in the new home.
So many homes stay on the market for months and those months roll into years. When you go to actually preview those homes there is generally one thing they have in common: The owner did NOTHING to prepare to sell the home! There is too much furniture, too many decorations. It looks as if they have no intention of going anywhere soon - and guess what, they won't!
Do yourself a favor and PREPARE YOUR HOME before it goes on the market! Let the prospective buyers know that you are ready to move on!
