Two members of the University of Minnesota Art Department are currently exhibiting their works at the Katherine E. Nash Gallery on the West Bank. Artists Guy Baldwin and Gary Hallman present "Retrospectives" through November 9, 2007 in the Regis Center for Art, located at 405 21st Avenue South, in Minneapolis.
Guy Baldwin is renowned for his kinetic art, including motorized fish with moving fins and tails. I'm privileged to have one of Guy's kinetic "fish" on display in my office and it is one of my most treasured artworks! Baldwin's style has been described as "playful" and remarkably innovative.
Among the works on display is Baldwin's "War Dance", on loan from the collection of U.S. Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin. Congresswoman Baldwin is Guy's niece and it was my privilege to meet her when she visited our Madeline Island Realty office, in LaPointe, Wisconsin.
Guy and his wife Susan Jonanson are both accomplished sailors. They love to sail the Apostle Islands area in Lake Superior during the summer months.
Gary Hallman specializes in photographic art and electronic imagery. His published works include Photographs from Middle America (1998) and Structural Moments (1982). Hallman has been awarded a McKnight Fellowship for his photographic work.
This is an exhibition that will appeal to a wide range of ages and tastes! I highly recommend setting aside the time to enjoy the work of these two very talented Twin Cities artists.
