Drink Up! Iced Tea Cools You Down and Has Health Benefits Too
Thank you Toni for reminding us to drink our tea. I know a lot of people like me drink coffee and sometimes forget the benefits of tea.
I’m a tea drinker as opposed to most to you being coffee drinkers(that what happens when you’re raised in England), and I just came across an article that extols the health benefits of drinking tea. If you want to drink a healthy cold drink when the sun is baking- iced tea is a great way to cool down and give yourself many healthy advantages.
If you drink tea on a regular basis, you may be lowering your Alzheimer’s risk. And, your risk of diabetes. Tea is rich in flavonoids (antioxidants) which helps you to have stronger bones too; and healthier teeth and gums.True teas are a result of the processing of the tea plant leaves (Camellia sinensis). What we know as black teas: these are exposed to oxygen, then rolled and dryed. White and green teas are steamed, rolled and dried. Partially oxidized Oolongs are hybrids. All of these are true teas and are the teas with the highest health benefits. Herbal teas are infusions and not true teas.
Adding a little lemon juice to the pitcher of tea you just brewed will preserve the flavonoids because the best way to gain the highest health benefits is to brew it fresh; and who has time to do that every time you want to enjoy a glass? (You can use lime or orange juice instead; I love it with lime juice!)
So brew up a pitcher of Iced Tea and drink lots--It’s good for you. Oh, and don’t use the pre-made stuff-the processing beats all the goodness out of it. Start with fresh tea leaves and filtered water.If you are lucky enough to have a tea shop in your area, go visit and see and smell all the wonderful teas you can choose from, and maybe we can have a tea party.
