Back to School Contest

Real Living ecard - Back to SchoolAn interesting challenge for sure... The Back to School Contest to me is more of a challenge in the old fashioned Bob Stewart 2009 way than many of the recent contests.

Hyper local... challenging.  Talking to consumers rather than about them.

This is a Re-Blog of Kerrie's post about a contest / challenge which can get you some points and traffic on your local content. Thanks Kerrie for allowing the Re-Blog.

I jumped in with both feet, to the Back to School Contest. My three posts are in the comments on Kerrie's blog. A school supply post and two football schedules. I am NOT stopping there though. In my typical obssesive compulsive way (NOTE I did NOT say anything about disorder) I will be posting more.   I geared up the football schedule assembly line the other day. I have a bunch of high school football schedules done... well except I need local photos.

Similarly there is a Worthington schools supply list assembly line...

I just re-tooled the Market Report assembly line if you must know the truth.

Back to School Challenge 2011

Have you done it? Have you written blog posts about "Back to School"?   Plenty of time, open to September 4, but you really need to write them based on school schedules, don't you?  No point in posting about school supply lists aReal Living ecard Ohio State footballfter the first day of school. Football schedules need to be posted before the season starts.

I had over 50 visitors two days in a row to my Worthingon real estate site... Google analytics tells me they came for a 2009 Ohio State University football schedule.  I got a post with a link to the official OSU 20011 football schedule up this morning.

Autumn 2011 Challenges...

What are the hyper local posts that we should be planning for after September 4?  What are the posts that bring in traffic in the fall? Halloween?  More football?  Columbus Day?  More football?

Maybe the posts less robotic, all assembly line and obsessive compulsive looking (talking about my blog here not yours) is better though...  Organic.  Timely.

Pretty soon the lemonade stands will be a distant memory and all the little angels will be back at their desks, dressed to the nines with brand new SpongeBob lunchboxes.  Most of you are jumping up and down with excitement at the very thought!digitalart

Through much analytical research, we found that back to school searches are heavily used this time of year.  We all know that hyper local posts bring clicks, views and business.  Being up-to-date on the happenings in your neighborhood speaks volumes.

Moms and Dads, Nannys and Grandmas will soon be searching in preparation for the first day of school.  What does little Sophia need on her first day?  What time does school begin and end?  What bus route is closest to home?  When does boys track start?  What is the attendance office's phone number?

Last year, heavily clicked upon blogs included the keywords below:

  • school calendar
  • school supply list
  • bus schedule
  • sports calendar
  • school board

Once again it's time for you to be known as the expert of your Community.

We know that points aren't what it's all about but we're throwing some your way to light that fire.  Write a hyper local post using one of the above keywords and receive 1,000 bonus points.  Points will be awarded for up to 3 posts with a max of 3,000 points total.  Include your post(s) link in the comments below.  Contest ends midnight September 4th.

You are all encouraged to dominate your market and if you need a refresher on SEO, please visit the ARU calendar and sign up for an SEO Training class.  People will find you...it happens every single day!

*Points awarded once contest is over.

Gita I did back to school posts on my own in July because we had two school districts starting earlier than usual this year.  I have done back to school posts other years.

When I see people coming from the search engines for old content I know it is time to write this years post.  I never posted a high school sports schedule or an elementary school supply list.  I never knew to.  That's why I like the hyper local challenges.

Barbara I am NOT sure that it is good posting or not.  It is good for search engines.  Regular readers might perhaps find it not as interesting... but I am not sure I have regular readers on my ActiveRain content for consumers and the content on my Outside Blogs.

Carol I know people missed it because they stop on posts and say "what a good idea."  Not my idea.  I never knew the general public is looking for it...  I've done "first day of school is..."  and "last day of school is..." it is good to know what AR sees consumers searching for broadly.
