"Let's Be Careful Out There"
Karen does a great job reminding us about choices. With the impending potential for Hurricane Irene to make land along the east coast, I hope everyone has taken the necessary precautions.
Remember Hill Street Blues? I used to love that show! One of the signature lines before the crew went out into the streets keeping the peace was "Let's be careful out there." Good thing to remember!
How many times in our day do we make poor/dangerous choices? Do we drive with our knees? Walk too fast on a wet surface? Carelessly pick up a hot pan?
We take chances all day long and every time it backfires, we have that little thought "shoot, I wish I had done this differently."
Hurricane Irene is coming folks. It's all over the news. It's a major weather system and it will cause damage....that we know for sure. The extent of the damage is not known. Each person in the path is going to get a different level of damage....or none at all. But this is a risk that doesn't have to be taken.
I have thought about Hurricane Katrina today. I think we can all agree that staying to wait it out was a bad idea. And the saddest thing was that there was plenty of notice that it was coming. Of course there were those who couldn't get out...but there were also so many who could get out and stayed anyway. "I've lived through Hurricanes before and it's fine."
Please.....it's not worth the risk, to you, your children, your friends. There are things which happen to us just living our daily lives, but there are also some risks we don't need to take. I have kids, so I don't own a Harley Davidson...it's a risk I don't have to take. So is staying during Hurricane Irene.
Come on people..."let's be careful out there"!
