Business Cards must be 'Signed' by the agent at showings???????

Dan Edward Phillips Broker/Owner, Eureka has informed us of a new RULE in his Association where Showing Agents are Required to leave a Business Card with a Signature whenever they show a property.  This rule in my opinion demonstrates a lack of understanding on the part of those writing the rules.  In this day and age when identity theft runs rampant why would you require someone to leave their signature? Now I understand that there are some who do not invest in technology, and that's ok even so, they should not be required to leave their signature.  Please stop by Dan's post and leave a comment

The Humboldt County, California Association of Realtors has a 'rule' that agents will leave a business card at all showings with the date and time of the showing and the card must be' signed' by the agent.

It would seem to me that leaving your legal signature laying around in vacant homes may not be the "brightest" idea!

Most of the business cards of the board members do not have adequate room for a signature on them.  They are now printed both 'back and front'.

If the homeowners are present at a showing I always introduce my self and provide them a business card.  However, I do not put the date and time on the card and I do not sign it.

When I show a vacant home I leave the date and time as we are still using 'SentriLock' lock boxes.  But I refuse to sign the card.

As most Association of Realtors are using modern lock box technology (Supra) that provides complete showing information, the date and time on a business card in most cases is no longer necessary.  In the event of a legal issue, the lock box access records will take precedence in a court of law, not a time and date scribbled on the back of a business card.

C lloyd,  Good choice for a re-blog.  It is always interesting hearing about rules and regulations that come about.  The argument and reasoning for not leaving a signed card would certainly void any argument for leaving a signature card.  In my opinion.  I'd like to know why they want this done?  Why was this initiated?

Don't we all have enough rules for everything already.  Isn't this what lock boxes do already....record who has been there?  I hope that board reconsiders this decision.
