They have arrived!!! I know it!! Time of Arrival: 8:12 PM on 8/7/11
It was a normal early August day in Nebraska...hot and muggy...with the evening air heavy enough to slow life to a crawl.
The only thing that felt good that evening was the chill of the A/C after coming in from an hour in the dew laden garden...I poured a tall glass of ice cold tea while the sweat kept beading up like drops of rain on my tank top as if I had just stepped into the shower.
To say I was hot was an understatement...I could feel Niagra Falls cascading down my back...my own private flood clouding my eyelids. I leaned over by the kitchen sink to dry my forehead...and that is when I first saw it...coming straight towards me faster than I have ever seen one moving in my 58 years of life.
I wiped my eyes and at first, stood there in awe...After a few moments I hollered at my daughter Jaime to come here quick...and she just stood there stunned as well...which says a lot about a 16 year old invincible girl!
All I could do was grab the camera and say let's go and out the door we went...What we saw was nothing short of scary, amazing, incredible, unbelievable, and my camera did not do justice to what we were witnessing.
The following photos were taken in a 2 minute time span from the first photo to the last photo. From the time this appeared on the horizon at 8:12 until it was gone was a total of 3 minutes...Not alone you say...well let me tell you something...if we aren't alone...I think they visited Nebraska a few weeks ago...and if we are alone...well...See for yourself!!
NO really...look at the Angle of the top of the white cloud...10 seconds between shots...no photoshop or anything else!
Just when we thought there was nothing in the cloud...this next cloud plume showed up almost instantly...remember...less than two minutes from the first photo to the last one.
By now the excitement and cool wind from the cloud had made me forget all about the heat and sweat from a few minutes earlier...a complete turnaround to the end of the day...
Jaime and I spent another 15 minutes or so on the patio as the clouds cleared...she texting photos to friends and comparing notes at the thumb speed of about 50 words per minute...while I grabbed my ice tea...and noticed that all of my ice cubes had melted...
Until next time...
