No Birds Here…………….Just Some Happy Cats!

I found this great area while on a nature walk yesterday in the hills. I was sure there would be plenty of subjects to take pictures of. I couldn’t find a rabbit, a squirrel, no rodents anywhere and the birds weren’t even chirping?? How odd I thought but then as I came around the corner, I spied some feral cats hanging around. Some well fed cats I might add…………….

This  girl is having kittens or already did. She wouldn't get up nor look at me and the black cat hissed when I tried to get closer. OK I will stay back, far back!

I fell in love for this cat. She was such a friendly girl and talked to me while I took her picture.

After following the trail a half a mile, I finally found some birds. They stayed way up high in the bushes where the cats couldn't reach them.

Kristen--I thoroughly enjoyed your 'catty post.'  Of course the bunny is cute, too.  My daughter had a beautiful cat for 17 years while growing up.

Have a good day.  Good luck with Sept challenge.

Kristen:  I just love the third picture... with your kitty friend lying there... partially warmed by the sun... eyes just open a slit... while she contemplates taking her NEXT nap.  I think that is one of the major reasons why cats have nine lives.  They are so well-rested.  I think I need to do the same.

Thnks for the sweet photos... have a great week-end !

Hi Mary,

They all looked pretty clean and well fed. The black one hissed at me when I got close. The grey cat was so sweet so I am guessing she has not been in the wild as long.

Hi Than,

Yes they do look well fed and I am guessing that is why I had no nature subjects like squirrels and rabbits to take pictures of. The grey one had a beautiful coat.

Hi Karen,

I agree, cats have 9 lives as they are typically so laid back, rest in the sun and sleep most of the day. Wha a life. Thanks for stopping and have a lovely weekend too.

Hi Karen,

Thanks for the compliment and I am glad you liked me posts. I will go right now and subscribe to yours too. I love ActiveRain and have met so many nice people and we all have the same interests. I love real estate but I also love nature and taking pictures too. This is the best place to get the best of both worlds for me.

Kristin - Those look like very happy and healthy feral cats:-)  I worked several years at a software development company int he Sierra Nevada foothills.  The place was a state of the art building at a very rural and remote location.  We had all kinds of wildlife including a feral cat population.  We did have one cat that came quite domesticated.  She'd wait for the doors to automatically unlock at the designated hour each morning, and then walk in with us to spend the work day.  She'd make her rounds from cubicle to cubicle, and office to office.  She'd lay on our desks, in our laps, and at our feet.  She added a real soft touch to our days.

Hi Myrl,

She probably stayed domesticated since everyone petted her and fed her. I bet she was a real celebrity among the employees. We all love animals!

I thought it was interesting that the grey cat was friendly as typically they are standoffish(Is that a word?)

I love all nature; birds, cats, dogs, small wildlife animals and larger ones too as I have been to Alaska several times and we are planning to take a road trip to the Artic Circle. Of course, we won't see too much wild life at the circle. I also love flowers and I love the rustic beauty of plants out in the wilderness.

Hi Kristin,

I love cats.  We have a cat that is outside a lot.  The birds do scatter when he is out and about.  Sometimes though it is funny they will dive at him if he ventures too close to one of their nests.

Hi Lisa,

I have heard of birds dive bombing pets if they get too close to their nests. The cats I found looked well fed but maybe from rodents and not birds. The birds may just be smart enough to stay a distance. Have a nice weekend.

Hi Chris,

Your picture shows you happy and smiling and I suspect that is your nature. I am glad you enjoyed my post today. ....I enjoyed your presentation on AR University today too. Thanks I know quite a bit about FB but did not know about the secondary search with education. Interesting. When I need another FB question answered, I may email you as you are very computer savvy.

Hi Toni,
I appreciate your remarks and thanks for subscribing to my post. I really enjoy taking pictures and writing daily posts. I have been reading and commenting on your posts as well.

I did not take any of the cats home with me and frankly they seemed pretty happy. I have 3 small dogs and they would drive the poor cat nuts. People must go out on the trail and take care of them as I saw dry cat food sitting on the rock where the black cat was and behind the gray cat.

P.S. Your cat is adorable. I love the way cats just pose for you. I have a hard time getting all three of them together for a picture. Here are my darlings having a quiet moment sitting beside my desk.

Kristin, Is this a protected area for ferals?  Is there a cat welfare group providing the food?  These do look like well fed and well cared for ferals.  Just wondered if there is a trap, spay and release effort going on.  Good post.

Hi Mona,

I do not think this area is protected for ferels. I know we do have protected wildlife here for eagles and hawks. Last year, my puppy killed a skunk in our backyard and I quietly put it in the trash as I was afraid the skunks might be protected. Later, animal control said no. Relieved about that!

Hi Cal,

Yes, every Sunday morning my hikes find new nature subject to shoot pictures of even when I go back in the same area. Yesterday while going to the post office, I spotted a picture of a squirrel just looking at me. It blended into the terrain so well, that even after taking its picture, it was hard to find. I will probably post it Sunday as well. It will be like "Finding Waldo"?
