San Diego Fleet Week Sept 16th - October 1st, 2011
San Diego's first Fleet Week came to be in 1935 during the California Pacific Exposition. The US Marine color guard carried the Star and Stripes caross the Cabrillo Bridge to Plaza del Pacific in Balboa park where it was raised to open the Expositiion.
During that week, 114 warships and 400 planes arrived under the command of US Navy Admiral Joseph Reeves, Commander-in-Cheif of the US Fleet.
Fleet Week San Diego 2011 continues today to honorall the Men and Women of the Armed Forces. During the 16 day celebration, numerous events take place around San Diego.
