Seacoast Garage Doors puts unauthorized stickers on homes

Seacoast Garage Doors puts unauthorized stickers on homes even when they have never done any work there.

Seacoast Garage Doors sticker

It appears their unethical and probably illegal advertising tactic is to go to vacant (and some not vacant) homes for sale and put their stickers inside the garage...on the garage door, the garage door opener motor, the wall, the water heater, or just about anywhere they can find the space.  They either use a combination lockbox to access the property so their visit can't be traced or they pay a real estate agent to either place the stickers for them or to use the agent's lockbox key.

This pays off for Seacoast Garage Doors when the new owner moves in and needs their garage serviced they think Seacoast must have done some work there previously so just call them. I would say that is false advertising. And I'm not sure if it is against any law, but at least violates some ethical or moral grounds to be distributing unsolicited advertising like this INSIDE a private home.

My recommendation is to avoid Seacoast Garage Doors solely based on this misleading form of advertising. If they were a good company, they could obtain business the old fashioned way by earning it or at least asking permission or paying for advertising space!!! You can also see many negative reviews about this company on websites like Yelp, Citysearch, Yellow Pages, etc. Their business address is also questionable as depending on where you look it shows up as Oceansdie, Costa Mesa, or even Las Vegas! They are also known as Anytime Garage Door.

Update May 31, 2013. I just had Seacoast Garage Doors place two unauthorized stickers on one of my listings. The sticker references the website www.AnytimeGarageDoor.com and contractor license number 964311. The sticker says the warranty is void if it is removed and gives their phone number as 800-366-7496. I plan to do what I can to have this stop. If you have experienced a similar problem, please let me know.

Dealers against dishonest companies
Thank you for trying to get the word out!! This company is the most dishonest company I have ever seen in 26 years of being in the garage door industry. At first when they started showing up, we "garage door companies" thought owell someone came up with a good idea, but then when we learned how they rip customers off by selling them stuff at over inflated prices and and selling them parts they don't need the word got out. They are now damaging or breaking or stealing parts off the doors and openers. "we" as a industry are trying to get the word out for homeowners to be aware. So thank you for trying to get the word out aswell.

A garage door that I just had installed on a house in escrow has mysteriously stopped working and the sticker for the garage door company that did the work originally has been removed and Seacoast put their sticker on the equipment.  I am looking for similar stories.  Please write me back if this has happened to you.

I have a rental home with the same situation as Dan's post above. It is located in the Phoenix metro area. The home has two garage doors. I installed one garage door opener (on my own) nine years ago when I bought the home, and the second garage door opener I replaced a year ago. The anytime garage door "warranty" stickers were freshly applied on both garage doors and opener motors when the home was listed on MLS for rent. When my new tenants moved in, they discovered the older of the two garage door openers was not working. I am very technically inclined (electromechanical engineer), under the pressure of satisfying my new tenants, I promptly replacing the 9 year old suspiciously faulty opener on my own. I then brought the faluty motor home and took it apart. I discovered damage to the electrical motor windings, almost like someone shoved a screwdriver into it. Realtors should never provide lockbox codes from secure MLS notes, and should tactfully screen realtors to see if they are actively employed under a broker.

As a home owner who recently had a Garage door issue, thank you for this post. I just about called Seacoast and decided to check up on them. I have already cancelled their appointment.

They changed their name to GDI Garage doors. Same sticker type, same warning on the stickers, with a website that does not function called "www.GDIDoors.com". They want $850 or $950 depending on which of the two openers you select and are now working in the inland empire.
