Dallas TX Banning Saggy Pants

A big campaign started a couple of days ago that bans saggy pants to be worn around Dallas.  Previously, there have been banned at some of the schools, but this is actually a city-wide ban.

There are two dozen billboard signs around the city reminding people they need to pull their pants up.  This campaign is being faught by many people saying it is a violation of their expression.  There have even been some violent attacks on prominant people throughout the city, which is scary.  Here's the link to one such story.

Personally, I can't believe it's taken this long to get rid of the saggy pants.  Saggy pants were popular about 10 years ago, and I remember thinking that it wasn't going to be long before the fad disappeared and people were dressing normally again... well, for the most part, people are dressing normally again, except a small few who still think it's a cool look to show their boxers.  They walk all bow-legged just to keep their jeans above their knees.  It looks ridiculous.

Here is the link for the song that was written to help the campaign.

Wow, That is crazy. its one thing not to like saggy pants but to make it a law. If they are going to be the fashion police, they really should start with mullets. I was in east texas helping with the disaster a few years ago. I beleave it. It seems like they are targeting a group of people.

If you just put clown makeup and a red nose on most of the saggy crowd they look like Bozo the Clown from way back.  Some years back my buddy said the term was 'dressing house.' To be honest, from a practical perspective having saggy britches on can be a safety issue when someone needs to get out of the way of impending trouble.  They think they are impressing women, yet I wouldn't want the time of day from a women impressed by such a visual joke as 'House Dress.'

I think the saggy pants look is stupid but I think making a law to ban it is going overboard.  But the cops probably like the saggy pants on the criminals because it is easier to catch them since they have to hold up their pants when running away.  I've seen great Youtube video of these stupid criminals!

Brian, can you add feathered hair to the mullet list?

Keith, But to make them look like clowns, they would have to also wear suspenders, and they refuse to wear any type of belt to hold up their pants.  It's almost like they bought shorts, but really wanted pants, so they have to wear them low so they go down to their ankles like pants.

Linda, I agree the look is stupid.  I've seen videos where they try to run.  It's hilarious... LOL!

I'm not in favor of the law, but the pants are stupid.  I told a girlfriend's daughter's date that I could staple them up for him if he was having a problem.

Yesterday I watched a young "gentleman" hop up in to a pick up truck and subsequently fall to the ground after misjudging the leap.  His pants were below his buttocks and having to hold them in place at the buckle while attempting this hands-free maneuver would have been miraculous.  Regaining some composure after enduring both the physical and emotional pain, I believe he realized the cost of being "too" vogue.  Thanks for posting Donna!

Hi Donna,  I don't like them telling us how to dress but some people need to be told.  They can't figure it out for themselves.  HA HA

Someone mentioned this ban to me the other day. This issue is really important to me because it seems to be a cultural issue. I know that "saggin" is not confined to one race but the "style" is still cultural.

I was at a burger joint with carhops yesterday. Both of the young men on duty had sagging pants. This was really upsetting to me because it shows there is a lack of professionalism and pride in self among the young people in our community. I forgot to call the manager to tell him/her my thoughts. This post reminds me.

While I think spending money on a campaign or law is overboard I do believe that we should reach out to our young people (all of them) to instill self-respect, dignity, and pride. By the way, there is a no-sagging dress code at my kids' high school.

If this is our future being "flashed" before our eyes we're in a "butt-load" of trouble.

Saggy pants are just gross. I couldn't agree more with the ruling to ban saggy pants. As a Dallas area resident, I've had about enough of the boxer butts peaking out. It is a slap in the face to decency.
