Battle in the swamp - A college football thang.

Growing up in Georgia means growing up in the GA-FL tradition. It means that when the week arrives, you know which side you are on and who is who.

I grew up a   and despised the as much as anyone. The Spurrier ERA was the worst of all. I went off and became a and believe it or not, still despised the dreaded . With that said, I started losing touch with the Battle of the Swamp held in Jacksonville FL. Historically   lead the series 45-37-2 against the dreaded . Today, as a fan, we have to hope that we can stop the   QB and his 3 wideouts if we want to win. ALL in ALL, we are hoping for a victory for the   today.

MICHAEL DIROCCO of The Times-Union in Jacksonville FL list the 3 key matchups as this:

Florida kick returner Brandon James vs. Georgia special teams It has been 103 games since the Gators returned a kickoff for a touchdown, but James has come close several times this season. The former St. Augustine High standout had a 61-yard return against Kentucky to set up a late first-half touchdown, and his 28.3-yard average is third in the SEC. He leads the SEC in punt-return average (18.9). The Bulldogs rank first in the league in net punting (38.3) but are one of three SEC teams not to have forced a touchback.

Florida quarterback Tim Tebow vs. Georgia middle linebacker Dannell Ellerbe Despite a bruised right shoulder, the left-handed Tebow (above, left) - UF's leading rusher with 578 yards and 10 touchdowns - will try to run the ball inside against the Bulldogs. The Gators will try to limit Tebow's carries, but the sophomore from Nease High School ends up getting most of his carries when he scrambles. Ellerbe (above, right) is UGa's leading tackler (53), and he'll need to limit Tebow's yards after contact.

Florida defensive end Derrick Harvey vs. Georgia tackle Trinton Sturdivant The Bulldogs' offensive line, despite starting three freshmen, has given up only 10 sacks this season. Sturdivant - a 6-foot-5, 293-pound freshman - will sometimes have to contain Harvey, who's second in the Southeastern Conference with 61/2 sacks. It's unlikely that Sturdivant has faced a player with Harvey's speed. Florida's pass rush has been inconsistent, but the Gators did sack Kentucky's Andre Woodson six times last Saturday.

GA fan here all the way.  I learned that having a GA handbag is not all that great recently, lol.  I like my dawgs and like to show my support but being that we are close to the AL border here and have clients who live in GA they may not all be GA fans.

Although I'm not a college FB fan, I do like the way you did this. I don't understand the love of the Florida Gators? I live here and just don't get it. Guess I should have gone to college huh? LOL. Oh and I like any team that beats Dallas and Miami (as long as it isn't Denver) :)

How does an FSU cat support anyone BUT the Bowden-Bunch??? (Awesome use of logos....kind of like the Scooby Doo books I read to my little boys where the pictures take place of words. Maybe I should start making some Wolverines related handouts for them.)

Well, who'da thunk it?  That the Georgia brand of Bulldogs would put up 42 on the Gators, who are beginning to look rather average by SEC standards.  And who'da thunk that SC's great kicker would have missed a game-tying field goal, and let the Vols off the hook.  Seems the ball is bouncing Tennessee's way right now.  And how in the world did those other Dawgs put the clamps on Kentucky's offense!?  Don't look now guys, but Croom has found himself a natural leader at the quarterback position, and there are a whole bunch of high-quality redshirts in Starkville to go along with what will be a great senior bunch next season.

Surprise of the week, of course, is that Tommy and the Gang down in LA (Lower Alabama) found a way to gut it out against the mighty Ol' Miss Rebels, Toddy lovin' Cajun coach and all.  I guess three straight years of (supposedly) top-ten recruiting seasons don't necessarily equal success.  Just wait 'til next year, as they say.  Hoddy Toddy.

Getting back on track (seems to be more and more difficult for me the older I get), I think those other Dawgs from Jawgia would have whupped up on the Gators yesterday whether Tebow had a sore shoulder or not.  They were inspired, and answered every threat by the Gators emphatically.  Before it's over, the West may be as jumbled up and confused as the East, now that LSU has shown that they're human after all.  How about this:  'Bama whups up on the Tigers next week, and comes into Starkville the following week with their noses in the air.  State beats Arkansas the following week, and Arkansas, after getting beat up by Tennessee and S. C., finally get mad and beat LSU on national TV, while Auburn beats Alabama.  More than at any other time before, that scenario is by no means anywhere near out of the question.
