William Johnson Inspired Flower Photos

William Johnson just wrote a featured post titled Photography Reduces the Scene From a Three Dimensional Experience to a Flat Dimension Photo, which I highly suggest you check out. After reading William’s post, I thought about taking photos from all different angles and finding a picture within a picture.

I didn’t have time to get new photos, but I did take his suggestions and applied them to editing. I discovered some really unique flower pictures by cropping away 70% of the original photo and giving it a whole new perspective and look.

Because I shoot with a Nikon D5000 I can crop without losing any clarity. These are some of my “William” inspired photos. When William gives tips on photography, I listen....…and so should you!

Good Morning Kristine, William has been an inspiration to me from the very first day I joined AR.  So are you though!  My eye always drills down to "parts" of the subject but I've never thought to drill down to part of a subject like your first photo.  Too bad I need to go check out a property this a.m., otherwise...I'd be hunting flowers, lol.

Good morning, Kristine. Cropping is an effect long used in the photo industry to create intrigue. Good to see that you discovered this "hidden" mystery of photography...

Kristine, sometimes cropping can transform a photograph into a work of art. I think the first photograph in this post achieved that goal perfectly.

I like how you cropped/took only half of the flower in your picture that is on the top.  Makes the picture pop!

Kristine - This post proves the value of our association with one another.  There is so much to be learned when the collective tribal knowledge is so great!  That top photo of your's provides a unique perspective.  It is artful that just half the blossom is visible. . .But of course we already know the other half is there:-)  As usual, your photographs are among the best.

Hi Kristine,  I agree with you the post of Williams that you referred to was very educational.

That first picture that you posted was stunning!  Wow.  It is amazing how great a different, unexpected perspective can look.

Karen, Cara, John - thanks so much for your kind words!

Stacy -  I'll have to send you some (I have 20 at least) - you could blow it up and frame it!

Thanks Ruby!

John - that's so funny - I don't see it, but if you say so - lol!

Steve, John & Sharron & Anne - William is so talented and such a fine person!

Anita, Debbie and Ginny - thanks guys - you are so sweet!

Mona - there's always tomorrow!

Michael - you and William are both amazing!

Than -that's my husband - loves panoramic.

Keith -it's a great article!

Craig - thank you and it does look cool cut in half - never would have guessed!

Roy - I always think of you when I shoot flowers - that is your specialty and you are the king in that arena!

Rob - that does make all the difference. I can crop a photo down by 1/8 and still have great clarity.

Cheryl - you are too funny. It's a NikonD5000 - I didn't use a wide angle and of course I used picnik - lol. I always stop by Roy's - he's amazing and he doesn't even edit his!

Thanks Robert - that is quite a compliment!

Mimi - I'd love to know why you're doing a photo shoot in a Cemetery - sounds cool. Just think outside the box like William suggest. However, if you want to send them to me to edit them - I'd love to. We can do some really cool things with them in picnik. Say the word...

William - that's a fabulous photo - I have a similar one from when I went on safari in Tanzania - a photographer's dream! Thanks for the inspiration and sharing your knowledge!

Chris  - it does look cool right?!

Myrl - you have such a gift with words I love "tribal knowledge"  - perfect!

Thank you Sondra and you are another wonderful photographer in the Rain!

Hello, precious.  When I was searching out localism events, one of the things that I came across was this nightime photo tour of the Cemetery.  I had just done my post on our amazing cemetery when I saw that they were doing this, and thought it would be a great follow up.  Gonna check out Picnik today, and got some pointers last night from a local photographer with whom I had the pleasure of spending some time.  Still feel so blessed when I think of yours and my conversation.
