A Few of My Favorite Things...

A Few of My Favorite Things - The Naked BloggerA Few of My Favorite Things... Have you ever quietly pondered the things that give you great pleasure?  It's something I think about almost daily.  Having grown up with literally nothing, I learned at a very young age not to attach a lot of emotion to things.  Thank goodness too, because there were a few times in my life where I lost almost everything.  I felt a bit of resilency when the poop hit the fan, mostly because I knew if I came out of the situation with my life, health and family, I could get through anything.

The flip side to that is... I've learned to appreciate the little things so much more.  I eat, sleep and breathe the simple things today... I suppose that's a big reason why I don't get too upset when life deals some heavy blows... my mind always reverts back to that of a child and I think about the words to a song Julie Andrews sang in the Sound of Music, 'I simply remember my favorite things and then I don't feel so bad.'

A few of the Naked Blogger's favorite things...

A cup of coffee (sunshine), whip cream, hugs, music, hot showers, smiles, laughter, sunglasses, blue jeans, T-shirts, flip flops, children playing, lipstick and chocolate.  I also love blue skies with white patchy clouds, mountains, trees, fall leaves, wildflowers, cold mornings, the sound of water splashing over rocks, the ocean breeze and beautiful sunsets.  Oh yeah... and I can't forget my pillow and of course... buttermilk pancakes with grape jelly!

What are a few of your favorite things

I enjoy quietness wherever I seem to find it Mel. It just seems to center me better. Simple can be so much more rich in our lives than the busy, that too I agree with your assessment there. ANYTHING that includes a dog in the picture with me, I am in heaven with my smiles.

Nancy ~ Curling up with a good book and hugging a friend is right up there on my list... along with chocolate :)

Oh Sharon, you really know how to add sunshine to one's day!  I hope you're enjoying this lovely Sunday as well my friend ;)

I think we're thinkin' along the same lines Kathy... and tea is my 2nd cup of sunshine!

Awww Gayle... what a GREAT pic!  I can just picture myself on that Adirondack chair reading a good book and sippin' my Joe, listening to the waves crash against the sand... I'm breathing it all in baby!

Quiet solitude allows for much reflective thought doesn't it Gary?!  And who better to share it with than man's best friend ;)

I just had a stack this morning Carla, and they were oh so good!  I guess that's what happens to the '50' and over crowd... we become inspirational ;)  What's shakin' GF?  And where's your new pic?  I've been waiting!

I love walking my dogs early in the morning, when everything is quiet except for the chirping of birds; the air is cool and calm and the leaves of the sweet gums are starting to turn red. And I am thankful for the time to enjoy these things. Happy Sunday!

Mel- the older I get the more I understand and realize that it's not always the things you can touch that give you happiness... I though do love my flip flops, books, my laptop, sunshine and all things chocolate.

The older I get, the more wonderful simplicity becomes.  Beautiful post, my friend.  Just like the cabin in the woods this week, no phone, no internet . . . just my special man and some wonderful simplicity.  Thank you for spelling it out.  No surprise that it is very similar to tomorrow's post about my 'time away.'

Mel my friend, you are so right about this, it's all the small stuff that make our lives special... my afternoon's coffee break, the beach early in the morning when no one's there, children giggling, morning doves, palm trees, sunsets, chocolate, paint brushes, old albums... life is so full of precious moments.

My grandparents grew up during the depression and I remember how they were and my parents didn't have money with 4 kids and a teacher's salary and that has made me what some people call me cheap. I prefer to call it prepared.

Mel - love your list!  I'd have to add Nutella on warm croissants, walking my dog at dusk, and the smell of a fresh baked pumpkin pie.  Of course, as my grandmother used to say, chocolate and coffee are proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy!

Sounds like a lovely memory and 'favorite thing' Brian!

I love your list too Susan... especially what your grandmother used to say....  'Chocolate and coffee are proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy!'  I'm going to post that on my FB page!  LOVE it!

"I listen for a living." It's all about you.

Living in the light Mel, good for you.  As I run around in a crazy over filled scheduled life there isn't a day that goes by when something I love doesn't reach out and grab me for a moment.  It could be a light on the fall tree, the smell of the coffee, dinner cooking, the sound of a loved one's voice, the moment the deal goes through....so many things to savor. Thanks for reminding us that this is a daily practice to bring you more joy.
