Clackamas County Real Estate: There is a new sheriff in town or so we thought! While out Geocaching with the family near local cemeteries we came across what we thought was an old west sheriff. This person had this badge above their tombstone, but upon further investigation we found out that our resident who was born in 1842 wasn’t a sheriff at all.
You see we wanted to investigate this badge since this was the first time I had ever seen this badge placed like this. We were hoping upon investigating our mysterious resident that we were going to find some famous sheriff from the 1800s.
But, what we actually found was really just as cool and has now set us on another path in looking at Oregon residences of the past. What we found was that Mr. Paddock was actually part of the Grand Army of the Republic, which WAS a fraternal organization that was made up of veterans of from the civil war.
Now, this organization was disbanded in the late 1950s when the last of the veterans of the civil war past away. Together these networks helped people stay in contact with other veterans and it created a fellowship that lasted a lifetime.
So, if you would like to find out more about the Grand Army of the Republic, Geocaching or Clackamas County, Oregon, don’t hesitate to call or email us, we would love to help you discover our heritage and how it connects with Clackamas County Real Estate.
