Polls, Spam, & Can a Good Idea come from Either?

I hate polls.  Okay, hate is a strong term.  "Dislike" is probably more appropriate and accurate.  One of the reasons I dislike polls is not only because I've rarely been asked to participate in them without having a chance to win an IPhone and the opportunity to read 50 emails in the morning from everyone I don't care to hear from, but because they can be so skewed.  Depending upon your ideology and the way the questions are put, the creator of said poll can pretty much display the results however it meets their particular creed.  For example, take our President's approval numbers.  They aren't exactly something to write home to whatever country he was born in, but they are God compared to what folks think of Congress.  Folks that dislike Obama concentrate on his numbers in a cumbersome time.  Folks who tend to like Obama..., well, they're not using toilet paper and generally growing their hair long.  Those damn hippies are at it again. A-hem! Like the Tea Party with Spending and The Bailout, which they are protesting, a little late but alright.

I also dislike spam.  While it is wonderful to receive twenty emails about how I can get rich quick, make my penis larger, and lose weight by eating more ... I'll just continue to work hard & smart, bow to heredity on the penis thing, and make scenes from Rocky IV a reality in my daily life.

An email was deleted by me earlier because it was spam.  Heck, it may be one of those chain emails that has no validity at all ... but the idea(s) are pretty good.  I dare anybody from the right, left, human, or alien race to say otherwise ... but THESE are some pretty good ideas:

Congressional Reform Act of 2011

1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.

3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen.
Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!!!!!

What say you?

I think there are many among us who share your sentiments.  We should all be thankful for what we have.

A lot of healthy Congress tweaks in there Jason, but aren't these the guys that make the laws? You know they will always take care of themselves FIRST.

CHM - True that, but no sense in not always striving for the prospect of better.

Woltal - Indeed, yet I do believe we are the final voice if we want to be.  It's a populus type of thing.

jason - How come, then they will be just like us? Don't you see it? It can't happen, they are not really us, are they? ;-)

Jason this all makes WAY too much sense to ever get implemented---it would mean the end to greed as we have come to know and love it in this country.  And would Americans know what to make of a congress that actually got something done?  Unthinkable really.

The only thing I'd change is that for so long as Social Security survives Congressional raises must be tied to and the same as the percent increase given to Social Security recipients and the military. All else being equal they shouldn't be getting raises when the folks that protect our freedom and the people that have paid their dues aren't.

Jason, it would be refreshing to have people that run for office because they want to serve their constituents and not to move up the food chain to elite -untouchable status.

There was a Rocky IV?

Congress serves us.  They only want to help us.  They love us.  We are their children.  We should therefore support them in every way once out of office.  And their families.  Forever.

You are a mean, mean man.  I'm writing my Congressman now and reporting you.

There, I said it.

Jason, I'd personally love it, or terms limits that actually had teeth to it.  It's a system that feeds itself and service to the people appears to be a distant secondary demand.  Bill

Almost 50% of Congressmen are millionaires and another 25%, at the very minimum, in the top 1%; so, we have 75% of our elected officials representing 1% of the population...in economic terms anyway.

Are they truly representative of the American public at large and why should they care?

Seen it, like it, but it will never happen. The foxes are guarding the hen house and the current guards care nothing for We the People.

Sardi - why do I have the feeling that we are being had here? It is an old spam message that has been going around the internet for years, and, as virtually all of them, is loaded with misinformation. They already participate in Social Security, they participate in the same retirement plan as all federal employees, and what the heck is that #7 all about? But I do agree, the government should be subject to the same laws and regulations that the rest of us are.

Donne - I don't think they are all bums, but there certainly could be a healthy shake up.

Saunders - That is the first thing I asked Jennifer when she showed me it.  It has some merit, though.

Jay - On a smart-ass kick, are ya?

Than - I wouldn't go so far as to say they care nothing for the people, but give me term limits or give me death?  Now where is that lightning bolt?

Karl - They should care but the answer to question (from an economic standpoint) is certainly no.  It doesn't bother me a bit for folks to get rich off their own merit and hard work but it seems strange to me to get rich off of participating in a civic duty.

Thanks Nick!

Bill - Agreed.

Jay - So I'm assuming you are the reason I had a visit from the "Men In Black" this weekend?

Loynd - Amen!!

Walter - No argument from me on that one.

Buell - Indeed, but stranger things have happened.

Zolsky - Well if we have indeed been infiltrated by aliens, it may explain a lot ;)

Jason, now the the 2012 election is over, they will be polling us shortly for whom we want to see run in 2016!  And, it will be twice as bad because BOTH parties will need candidates!
