80 on Monday, 8" snow on Wednesday, Golf on Friday, you gotta love Denver- I woke this morning to crisp blue skies and fresh snow covered trees, the rocky mountains off in the distance turned white overnight and received up to 2 feet of snow, typical Halloween weather in the Rocky Mountains.
Mondays high temperature reached 80 degrees, and by Wednesday morning the snow had started accumulating, when all was said and done we had received about 8 inches at my house. I am fortunate that most of the leaves on my trees had fallen over the previous weekend, many others around Denver were not so fortunate. Lots of broken trees and power outages due to the snapped power lines.
Only in Colorado can you use the heater and the AC in your car in the same day in the same zip code. Here is a link to a time lapse of Denver over the past 24 hours. As I look out my home office window I can see Mount Evans and the foothills west of Denver all covered in a blanket of new snow, this is going to be a great ski season for the mountains, should also be a big help toward our goal of hosting a future winter Olympics.
One thing that I tend to forget when living here is how critical a southwestern exposure is to the driveway, the neighbor across my cul-de-sac has the mirror image of my house, every winter when the snow flies, he will shovel his driveway 10 times more often than I will, the sun naturally melts all the snow, and keeps my drive warmer so when we do get snow it melts very quickly. Because we get 300 plus dats of sunshine a southwest exposure is ideal, it also is nice to have the shade in the back in the summer months, because it is never unbearable due to extremely low humidity to be outside, but shade is critical in the summer to be able to fully enjoy the outdoor eveinings.
Looking forward to all of this melting off today so I can enjoy a round of golf with my son tomorrow afternoon.
