This particular mushroom is a chanterelle, a delicacy which grows all over the Fishhawk Lake area and is very expensive to buy in stores.

Love the shrooms, on and off of plates. They are just amazing little fungi - quite charming little growths. And I so love Chanterelles.

However, what I love the most is that business is mushrooming for a very deserving Realtor at Fishhawk Lake. Keep it up girlie...you're rocking the Fall. It is "your season" of colors afterall. :)

I do love all the varieties we have here, but for those new to the NW, not all mushrooms are edible, be very careful.

Gayle, congratulations on your success in the Rain! Enjoyed your pictures of the mushrooms. I had dinner last week at the Cheese Cake Factory, and ordered chicken piccata, which came prepared with mushrooms in a lemony sauce. Delicious.

Gayle,

Beatiful shots, the chanterelles are my favorites.  Costco has them for $8 a box.  We make a wonderful pizza with pancetta, leeks chanterrelles and radicchio.  Delighted the biz is booming, wishing you continued success. A

Ha, Sharon~that'll be a tough one considering I've been a vegie for 37 years!

Miss Debb~you always know the best way to use a turn of phrase...and good luck to YOU on your short sale navigation! (Get better soon, too.)

Todd~you are so right! I never go mushroom picking without my experts, even tho chanterelles are quite distinct in their coloring and texture. This is NOT the way I want to meet my maker!

Pamela~Thank you for my congrats on Rain Success, it's really nice that all of this blogging is paying off. (And I got this recipe from a Fishhawk Lake listing...the husband brings me the mushrooms and the wife gave me the recipe).

Alexandra~After looking at some of these, I could see where two of the mushrooms almost looked life fish! Good heads up on the Costco purchase. We've sold them to raise money for our local Mist-Birkenfeld Fire Dept. I'm pretty floored that biz is happening in the 2nd wettest month of the year for Oregon.

Some wild mushrooms can cause liver failure and death within 24 hours, so even if you think you know what it is, it's best not to eat any from the wild.

Eric~you make a good point...always go with an "expert" when it comes to mushroom hunting. The chanterelles are the only ones I pick and they are very distinctive, but I ALWAYS go with people who've been picking these for years....plus I don't get lost on the old logging roads!!

Mushrooms have always scared me - too many stories from my mom warning me of what would happen if I ate one as a kid.  I even pick them off if they're on a pizza. But I'm glad to hear business is "mushrooming" at Fishhawk Lake!  With your beautiful photos, it's easy to see why!
