Fishbowl Effect

In our remodeling efforts we have moved several things onto the covered patio to make room to complete projects.  The arrangement seems to have been favorably received by two of the outside cats who adopted us last year about this time.

They have settled in on our patio and in fact made our back yard their own.  We resisted them at first because we had been in the habit of feeding the migratory birds and the neighborhood squirrels.  The cats gradually won us over and they have eliminated any thought of mice or rats which we did occasionally have before the cats moved in.

We recently found out their history at a neighbors anniversary party.  They were born in the sewer across the street.  One of the neighbors took three of them and had them spayed, then released them into the neighborhood.  He feed them until about a year ago when he sold his house.  The people who bought the house were asked to please continue to feed them.  They do not like cats… so they did not.  The cats must have just shopped around for someone they felt was sucker enough to take them in…

We easily qualified for the job.

The rewards have far overridden the food bill.  They provide us with hours of amusement plus the additional rodent control afore mentioned.

Fluffy and BlacksterThis afternoon they decided it was time for their afternoon morsels ahead of what we had thought was the right time.  Here is a photo of them perched atop some of the temporary outside patio décor.  It feels sort of strange to have that many eyes watching your every move…  Guess we now understand what fish in fish tanks feel like when we do a similar sort of thing to them .
