If you’re looking for a great thing to do with the kids in Santa Monica, look no further than Douglas Park, located on Wilshire, just west of 26th. This is one of our many park gems. On any given day you’ll see mommy groups sitting under the trees with their babies on blankets, adventurous toddlers exploring the bridges over the ponds to get a closer look at the ducks and turtles, young children playing in the fenced playground filled with swings, slides, toys of every shape and size. When the weather permits, Douglas Park also has a nice water feature allowing the kids to have fun splashing around. On other days, it’s a great place to practice riding a new bike. For the older kids, there are tennis courts (for adults, too!) and wide open lawns to practice their soccer or ball-catching skills.
If you feel like doing a little shopping for the kiddies, walk 1/2 block west from Douglas Park to the Pump Station (for the under age 3 crowd) and then another block west to Right Start.
If you’re hungry, there are plenty of options. Starbucks is on the corner of 26th and Wilshire. A yummy waffle café just opened called Bru’s Wiffle, very charming and kid-friendly. Blue Daisy is also new and a perfect place to grab a delicious crepe or casual breakfast & lunch. Of course, we can’t forget Whole Foods, no explanation needed but it’s in walking distance as well. Just head west along Wilshire from Douglas Park and you’ll see all of these local stops, they’re all within a 10 minute walk.
Since this is ultimately a real estate blog, what could be better than living in walking distance from Douglas Park? You get a great community, plenty of close-by cafes and shops and fantastic Santa Monica schools (Franklin Elementary and McKinley Elementary).
